I purchased one of the new, 11 series plates last week.
You lot may think its crap, but me and the wife find it amusing (BA11 OXS)
Problem is I live in Northern Ireland and am finding it quite difficult to be able to use.

Sent the DVLA an email off, and received the following..

To place a personalised registration number bought from DVLA Swansea on a vehicle it has to be currently registered with a mainland address. Should you wish therefore to buy you vehicle from a mainland dealer and they register it with their address details on your behalf then this would be fine. However, it couldn’t be registered by them to your address in Northern Ireland.

DVLA only holds information on vehicles with mainland addresses.

I would like top buy a new car come March to include the plate on, but am a bit worried of the thought of having to purchase a new car in Scotland/England due to Warranty problems etc.

Anyone any other suggestions on how I can go about registering this plate?

TBH, I'd just get the dealer to sort it out that I'm buying from

Are there any dealers of the make you're interested in who also have branches on the mainland? If so, maybe they could register the car and then tranfer to you - it would mean you being the second owner though.

(I thought is wasn't a great idea to have a mainland registration in NI?)

Charles Hursts are owned by Lookers, and there's lots of those on the mainland.

Not that it's an issue anyway, probably 80% of used cars on the road in N. Ireland started out life in England.

It used to be a big no-no, but it hasn't really been a problem for 1-15 years now. English reg cars back in the 80s pretty much meant the owner was Security Forces. Most people don't bother re-registering now. My car is still on it's Birmingham 54-plate, despite being in N. Ireland from June 2005.
