G'day.

I'm setting up a net based television channel. For cars, and cars only, well - maybe some music too but cars, and racing cars, car car and cars.

I'm not talking about something like the PistonHeads.tv site, dont worry Ted

I'm talking about a 24/7 channel that you can tune into at work, home, school, etc, anywhere with speakers. It will have schedules, times when things will play, programmes, adverts (car related) and so on.

Here's the thing though - I need stuff to play on it. At the moment i'm sorting adverts for stupidly low prices just to fill the space, then promotional videos from manufacturers, music videos, and i'm going to start begging and pleading with production companies.

Does anybody have/know any companies that want a TV advert...chat show (derestrictor?), program, in car footage, interviews, that they want broadcasting?

Is anyone filming at PistonFest (any chance on a 3CCD camera that can shoot in 24p with film style gamma curves?).

Feedback, ideas, thoughts, suggestions, abuse, money, flowers, and showers all appreciated.

Regards.

Dan

A few ideas for shows:

'Bloodlines' - take a modern car, say a Jaguar XK8, and the classic it has followed, in this case an E-Type, and road test them both to see if the essential 'feel' of the car has been kept. Add history element too.

'Rags to Racetrack' - how to buy cheap cars with racing potential, and each week buy one, strip it out, sort the engine and aerodynamics. At the end of the series, race them all against each other.

'Gassing Station' (I know!) - a debate show on motoring issues, a bit like Question Time using questions phoned/emailed in.

'Foot in the door' - how to gain entry to the world's most revered marques, basically buying guides to cars such as the Lamborghini Urraco, Ferrari 400i, Porsche 911 Targa Sportomatic and so on (unlike the 'isn't this a gorgeous little Fiesta' buyer's guides you get on Top Gear). Show people their dream cars aren't so far away.

Also, cover some more marginal motorsport that wouldn't be found on other stations, like Rallycross, Pro-karting and Historics.

very very nice!

i think the beauty of it being an internet based channel means that there's so many ways of having all the programs produced remotley.

now, this is going on the tour site (for charity) non profit, it's there to drum up some attention and be generally fun! SO... does anybody fancy nominating themselves as narrators etc - the only work involved would be using something like netmeeting or messenger and narrating to a video stream.

Think i'll have to drag out the Flash Com Server books and look into how to create a remote program creation tool sort of thing. Could be very interested - off to the computers section.

Great ideas though, keep them coming.

What about an advanced driving programme? 'how to be a race/rally driver' with tips on cornering, pedal control, gearbox use etc. Would make a good cheap 15 minute filler - all you need is a driver, a relevant car and a rally or race track.

And a camera operator, and lighting (if filmed on a bright day) and an editor....

Sorry, just me being pedantic.... but I know what you mean! Could be a relatively cheap programme to make... providing the camera operators equipment is insured to be used in a rally car!

Can I add to this that you find an anti-motoring type person as well. This would make the program much more interesting that a load a car nut talking about how annoyed they are with speed cameras etc. Would also be ammusing seeing them get torn to pieces by various PH members

and there i was just about to sell my indestrucatble 3 hour 12v in car recording device! Methinks i'll hold onto it now.

Anyway. an idea:

I could really do with sorting out a few 'teams' of people that are enthusiastic about this idea.

Basically each team would involve someone that knows about cameras/lights/sound.

Someone that knows how to make a good, fun, interesting show.

And someone who can edit and prepare a clip for web broadcast!

We could have any number of these teams running and making little programs - we could run some kind of voting system and have prizes for the best team! maybe even cash prizes! Does this sound plausible...I'm sure I could organise the prizes.

Would add another fun angle to the whole station!

The budget for the IT side will be provided by me for the mean time, thats why for the first few weeks I will be looking for pre existing and 'free to the cause' footage.

It'll then be onto the advertisers. Any revenue made from advertising will be passed back into the station to develop programs, more bandwidth, and promote the tour.

I need to rely on people that are enthusiastic enough to be able to work on the basis of "well i'm going here with a camera anyway so i may aswell". For the first month or so. Hopefully then I can cover costs, and after that maybe even start paying a little.

I'm not saying this will become a mini men and motors or anything of the sort - just a bit of light hearted fun that petrolheads can sink their teeth into!

I'd be happy to do a bit of narrating for you.

I'm probably a bit rusty now but I did the Tomy R/C Turbo Sports car add once upon a time.

Also recorded one for crunchy nut cornflakes but it didn't get used!

Sergio Pistoni, He's an italian motoring journalist. Has done work for both Italian and British TV companies. Met him at Goodwood last year, one of us in that he is a real car fanatic. Bilingual obviously.
