What is it about cars that used to be commonplace (and not worthy of a second glance) becoming appealing a few years down the line?
I love seeing standard older cars, they just have so much appeal. I don't particularly want to buy them, but I do find them fascinating. Some examples:

I must confess to loving the old Fords, not surprising as Dad used to own a Ford dealership. I used to love 'posing' around in his 2.0 Sierra, can't remember the model though, was a sporty one, but not the 4x4.
We always had a 'company hack' and it was always a Capri 2.8i, the icing on the cake though was the 2.8i Tickford Turbo

"German cars age better than British cars"... discuss!
That Golf MkII, my W124 Merc run-about and, for example, an e30 BMW all look (to my eyes at least) much less dated than the Sierra and the Cavalier from roughly the same period.
I quite like the Cortina estate - there's something very well-resolved about the design - but I couldn't justify £5k for it.

Nostalgia for simpler, lighter, more compact vehicles explains a lot of the popularity, I guess.I love seeing standard older cars, they just have so much appeal. I don't particularly want to buy them, but I do find them fascinating. Some examples:

Personally, I'd miss PAS, aircon and ABS too much!
The Golf seems like good value for its age/mileage/originality. Not sure about the £3k 1994 Cavalier - is that really a classic car yet?
The Nova looks nice and tidy, too. The ad makes reference to "not needing much work to get to concours standard" - I can't imagine taking a 1.2 Nova to Pebble Beach!

and then of course the original Tigra

still looks good after all these years due to simple wheels, wind formed styling and smoked rear tail lights not shouting out which decade it came from. It looks a lot more sporty than it drives.

I totally don't want this. Not even slightly.

Ford used to have some great wheel designs. Just think back to the old Capri, XR2,XR3 RS models and now they seem to have gone all chav and no thought.
I seem to recall with that particular design that all the wheels were the same, so the Escort looked somewhat different on the offside to the nearside.Rawwr said:

Golden age of Ford, then the Sierra Cosworth of course.

I used to love the XR & RS fords having owned a few in the late 80's & 90's great era for the hot hatch.
But if you see Mark 3 XR3i nowadays as i did at the recent classic car show its amazing how small and uninspiring they look the wheels are obviously are like polo mints and the whole thing just doesn't look right, same with the sierra cossie albeit i'd still have one of these to compliment my 930.

Had an 85 Cav SRI when i was 19 went quite well in its day 115bhp I think with Recaro seats These were the Reps favourite of the 80's motorways were full of them with the standard coathanger and suit in the back, been replaced nowadays by Audi's and BM's
