I really struggle to understand how someone can be properly prepared to deal with an emergency/skid situation of they don't even understand which wheels drive their car.

The police should be able to stop you and ask you. Get it wrong and they take the keys off you.

Maybe they read somewhere that oversteer was easier to control than understeer so socked/chained up accordingly.

They were driving enthusiasts and clearly didn't buy their cars based on aesthetics as they are both driving 1 series. hehe
