I haven't heard much from the anti 4X4 lobby this last couple of weeks. I know mine really came into it's own on the A143 in Norfolk yesterday and in some parts of the country (Wales) it seems that they,re in great demand at the moment

What a good thing nobody listened to them anyway.
I wonder how many lobbyists were wishing they'd actually got one as they sat stationary in their cars in a couple of inches of snow.
I got to work on time.

I don't think its the vehicles that are hated more the standard of driving from a significant number of the owners. Which is presumably why 4 wheel drive means bugger all in the snow for most of them.

The local police have massive problems with divvies in 4x4s. They've made a number of anouncements in the local news to try and discourage inexperienced 4x4 owners as a significant number of them are driving like wkers as they're not adapting their driving for the conditions.

Infact two members of my family were nearly taken out by some tosser in a Range Rover only last week through no fault of their own!

In the right hands with the right tyres however they are superb for the 10 days of the year that require them.

When this being duscussed recently one of the tree huggers replied, "yeah but if they weren't allowed we would not have snow"

Couldn't make it up really.

Seems like these guys have been worth their weight in gold recently - really wish our local district nurses would ask for help like that, they're just cancelling everything instead. irked

The forum they have there seems like a ghost town with no activity?

Local SAR teams also provide the same.

They need all the support we can give them: http://www.sebev.co.uk/

It does - some of the local groups are a bit busier, have heard a fair bit offline about their doings helping out rural GPs etc.

All the 4x4s I saw were stuck in traffic like everyone else , just because they have a 4x4 it doesn't seem they know how to drive them anyway

A mate of mine has an Audi S3 (I know this isn't what the OP was really referring to when talking about 4x4's). He tells me that his car stops twice as fast as a normal car because it has 4 wheel drive. Spacker rolleyes

Paid a grand for my Landrover discovery 18 months ago, utterly reliable, 7 seats, fairly economical and takes all this snow in its stride while most others are stranded. Best car ive ever had, think 4x4 is something everyone should own.

I'm a member of a 4x4 response group and most of what happens goes through email and texting.
The Wales guys are very busy at the moment as were the north east teams a week or two ago.

All 'responders' for the 4x4 response network have to have 4x4 driver training and assessment before being allowed to attend to any response duties.
