I have just watched the video on the Evo site of the 458 being driven around Bedford Autodrome. All very nice, but not the point of this post.

At the end of the video, the test pilot was chatting to camera while some other chap next to him pretended to analyse data on his laptop. AND THE LAPTOP WAS RESTING ON THE ROOF OF THE 458!!!

Now, I realise not everyone is as precious about their cars as perhaps I am, but FFS why would you do that?!?

Of course it is not their car - I assume it is a Ferrari press car, but have some F'ing respect. It made me think also of the countless times you would see Jason Plato, Clarkson or that painful bint VBH sitting on the bonnet of an expensive car in a pair of jeans - perhaps with a foot resting jauntily on the bumper!

Do the manufacturer's press offices not give a st? And is this perhaps the least of their worries when compared to letting some 25 year old trainee hack hoon around country lanes in their latest P&J?

Is it just me?

Even if it is, I feel much better now. Thank you.

I have no idea how much TV advertising costs but I suspect a ten minute feature on a popular car show is worth hell of a lot more than a full respray (if that becomes necessary).

Every laptop I've seen has rubber feet underneath. Wouldn't damage the car at all...

I still wouldn't put it on my car though. Would you?

However this may be the very point. It isn't. And not everyone respects other people's property, sadly.

Given the absolute hammering the engine and drivetrain get subjected to on these tests, a bit of paint would be the least of my worries.

But yes, the state some of the the cars come back in is shocking - tyres are usually illegal, wheels curbed etc! The press departments typically have a few specialist paint and panel guys working for them full time to repair all the damage inflicted before the car gets sent out again.

I am also anally retentive and a bit 'precious' when it comes to nice cars, so agree with th op wholeheartedly.
Except the bit about vbh. Although she would be a bit painful after I'd finished with her ;-)

In all fairness the daily battering the bodywork of a car gets during daily use is probably greater than a laptop resting on it.

I'm deeply offended if someone even thinks about leaning on my car, let alone rest a solid onbject on it.

Get a Mac.

As for the OP, pretty lame thing to moan about, imo.

Given the hammering that press cars get I doubt Ferrari care, that car has probably had more than one front end respray due to stone-chips, several replaced alloys, tyres, brakes and maybe repairs from a small accident.

Of course not. But it's not their own car.

When using a laptop to talk to my cars OBDII port I rest it on the sunroof glass rather than the paint work as I know it won't scratch. This is on a car that is significantly cheaper (like 100x) than a 458.

As with all things in life though, they should show the same respect for it as if it were theirs.

I often have the need for hire cars as part of my job, and once I had a diesel for a long journey, but the next day I needed a van. So the best thing to do was for the hire company to drive the van to my house that morning, and drive off in the car I had.

There was some forms for me to sign, so this fking muppet rested his clipboard on the bonnet of my RX8 whilst he filled in the details. I'm not one for swearing at people I don't know, but on this occassion I didn't even allow enough time for him to get his pen out.

Some people just don't get it. Don't go leaning, or placing objects, on my car.

Perhaps you would care to share details of what (if anything) you care passionately about, so that we may subject it and you to ridicule?

Judging by his profile it's burgers and the pub. So I think we can safely assume he's a fat virgin
