Anyone? For under 10k.

I want a fast diesel, (lets not turn this into a petrol vs. diesel session) and I want 4wd because of the stupid amounts of torque fast diesels (especially if I get it remapped) will have for winter driving. I thought about an ibiza cupra for a while but decided I didn't want FWD, I've got a FWD ibiza cupra petrol right now and thats remapped to 260lb/ft, wheels spin very easily in the wet/snow even if you take it easy.

Previous generation Subaru Impreza had a diesel option, if you swing that way. Probably quite rare because with such a glorious petrol option, not many will have asked for the oil burner, but definitely out there. I saw one the other day, expecting to be met with glorious boxer 4 rumble, but instead all I heard was a toolbox falling down a flight of stairs.

Still, if that floats your boat, this ticks all the boxes.

Why limit yourself to 4WD and/or hatchback?

A saloon will open up you rchoices massively, and RWD will cope perfectly well with gobfulls of torque without exposing the limits of the chassis like your pumped up FWD hatch has.

If you want to stick with Seat (who wouldn't? haha) they made Leon Cupra TDI's with 4wd, although they may have only been in Europe.

Any VAG* with the 2.0 tdi lump (don't get the 1.9, the 2.0 is streets ahead).

Yes that includes front wheel drive cars, because your reason for wanting a 4wd car is lollable.

My 123d is fine in the snow on winter tyres.

123ds are still a bit over your budget (I think) but 120ds respond well to remaps.

Alfa 156 JTD 2.4 sportwagen - should tick all boxes except 4WD, but do you really need it?

Subaru launched their first ever boxer diesel last year, so definatley not in the previous generation. Perhaps the bottom end had gone, scoobies do like to kill the bottom end..

Having driven a mapped 2 litre diesel a3 I can tell you that quattro would be a definite advantage. Especially in the current conditions, and if its at all wet.

hatchback because i don't need or want a big car.

4wd because I like the grip/traction it provides in all weather.

Personal choices, if thats "lollable" to you then you need to get out more.

Yeh... it was the one car I'd come up with myself, I was hoping someone else might know of another but it looks like im stuck with what to do.

I want 200bhp+ in a diesel, FWD with that much torque is a pain in the arse in anything but dry conditions imo, I just don't like how you can't put your foot down without spinning in 2nd or 3rd gear (thats how it is in my car, I'm sure in a diesel cupra it would be even worse due to more torque) In the dry it just grips no problem.

RWD i'm not experienced with but you see alot of threads on here complaining about it being a pain in the arse getting up and down hills and I remember having to push my friends 3 series up a hill which my car got up no problem once (no I didn't have winter tyres)

Didnt they do a Octavia TDI with 4wd? I'm guessing its the same engine as those found in Golf TDI's. Pitty they didnt make a 4WD Fabia VRS though... would tick all boxes!

They did, my brother has one and has been very happy with it in this weather.

4wd only gives ore traction, not grip.

Anyway, back to the original request and the reason you'll struggle to find such a beast is it's a bit of an odd one; you need a car that's designed for someone who wants economy but doesn't are about it enough to do without four wheel drive.

Anyhoo, here we go; http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2010...

I'm not sure how economical this one is and I personally wouldn't be at all interested; the GT TDI loaner I have at the moment has been perfectly fine in the recent unpleasantness. Still, bung some winter rubber on it and you'll look like a driving legend next time it snows

Well then shirley the Fabia VRS 4WD would be the holy grail of this question? I'd have a normal VRS quite happily, they're fun and nippy! And as the OP seems to like mapping his cars, i'm sure you can see a lot of gain from a fabia VRS?
