hello kids, i am trying to by a used audi TT for about 18 - 20k. want auto box and heated seats. coupe not convertible. i really cannot seem to find a 2 litre with heated seats - they all seem to be 3.2 cars. so, i may end up buying a 3.2 . i don't do huge milage - does the 3.2 use a lot more juice? is it more to insure and run ? if i only do 5k miles a year - is it worth getting a 3.2? any advice from owners appreciated, cheers - i know it sounds petty but i have a dodgy back and need the heated seat option!

Have driven them all.

My wife and I plumped for the 3.2, for the simple reason it sounds a million times better than the 4 pot, and has bags of torque. On the manual (which we have) short shift was standard. The only downside of the manual is the tax is in the higher band, but £200 extra a year is peanuts compared with the overall running costs and depreciation of a car.

Bose is a must have - even Bose doesnt sound that great to me, so avoid the boggo stereo. DVD Nav is a nice to have, and strangely improves the hi-fi sound too.

Heated seats are standard on the 3.2 I think.

Ours is averaging around 25mpg in mixed driving - you can do a lot better on a long run.

for 5k a year, the 3.2 is definitely the way to go IMHO.

cheers for that - would you buy another TT or do you think i'd be better off with a 325 / 330 bmw coupe for the same money?

Only you can decide!

Ours is a cab, but I really enjoy driving it. Lots of bullst flying about from people who have never driven one, and pretend they drive everywhere sideways, but I think they are a great all round car.

One other benefit has been during the snow - with winter tyres the car has been unstoppable - doing better than plenty of so call off roaders.

Personally, I prefer the wan the 2.0 drives. No idea on the fuel economy front, though.

ETA: The VR6 engine does sounds divine, though.

I like the audi v6 engines and would definately want the v6 over a 4 cyclinder turbo. Big improvement in refinement, low down torque and aural delights.

They sound lovely, must take a closer look at these! Is the 3.2 in the new shape the same engine as the ugly old one?

Broadly the same unit, yes. That engine can trace its roots back to the original VR6 used in the Corrado and mk3 Golf.

And indeed the Bugatti Veyron, if you're willing to stretch things a bit. hehe

Remember, you can always remap the Turbo one as well.

I've had an S3 and R32. The small turbo engine rev's more keenly and can be made to go faster. But the six cylinder engine is so much more pleasurable to own. It pulls in a much more effortless manner and makes a lovely sound. I personally hate less than six cyllinders.

Cant that newer 2.0 also be tuned 300+ bhp without too much issue and/or cost? And the torque from the turbo will be strong too.

However i think the auto will suit the 3.2 more. Not sure the auto responds well to a tuned turbo? I wouldnt risk it.
