My daughter's godparents bought her a tiny silver pill box as a gift. She's 8 now and it is one of her most treasured things. Little silver thing with a fairy (or some other girly non-car related thing) on the top.
A good jeweller has stuff like this.
Alternatively a 250ml pot of Zymol titanium wax would make you feel good!

I bought a solid silver coin/disc with YES on one side and NO on the other. (Links of London ~£60) I wrote something on the gift tag along the lines of..... if this can't help you make a decision then we'll always be around if you need us.

Try these people www.wrightsonandplatt.co.uk mouldings of the little ones hands & feet. They make unusual gifts, (they even do them in sterling silver if youre feeling flush?). I thoroughly recommend them
When I was a godfather to a girl, I got a jeweller friend to make a white gold expanding bangle that she was able to wear from about the age of three for the rest of her life.
For her confirmation I gave her matching ear-rings and necklace.
Very plain, very ageless and, at 17, they are her favorite jewellry

Yes they are still expected :-).
My daughter was just christined and amongst other things she received
expanding baby bracelet, diamond necklace, a cross on a chain, a pendant of her birthstone, other jewellery
a beautiful quilt that somebody had made especially for her
a large rabbit (cuddly toy) that somebody had made for her. You buy the kit, you just have to stuff it yourself. But it has a gizmo in it where by you record your own message and then when you squeeze the rabbit's belly your own message is played (in your voice obviously)
a first tooth box
money boxes
trinket boxes
a baby bond
a bible
illustrated beatrix potter book
beatrix potter crockery
etc
hope this gives you some ideas, of course a nice present is lovely. But the most important thing is taking the time to turn up on the baby's special day.
Our favourite present is the quilt, because of the time and effort that went into making it for her.

think is that sounds like a typical gift list if u look it up on the web - how do u avoid buying what someone else has
taking the time to turn up should be appreciated seeing as its 9.30 am on a sunday!!!yes I know, we did have wuite a few duplicates (money boxes, bangles etc..).
don't know how you can guarantee not to duplicate somebody else's present. Spending a shed load of cash would probably do it

A commemeratiive set of coins (in current circulation) from the year the baby was born (from £20 upwards), the £ will probably no longer be around by the time she is old enough to spend cash.
Adopt an animal at the zoo, though if you only do it for one year she won't appreciate it yet as she is too young, if not choose something with a long lifespan :-)
