Having read a few articles online it would appear that 10th place in the constructors championship is worth as much as £12m.

my question is this: is it possible for Caterham to overtake Marussia without scoring any points this weekend or have marussia finished ahead of caterham enough times for it to be pretty much impossible, short of Caterham scoring points? I don't understand how the roll back works in terms of champ positions.

Entirely possible. In the even of two teams not scoring points, their positions are decided by their highest single finishing position in any race. Marussia currently have a 13th place from somewhere, so Caterham have to finish 12th or higher this weekend to jump them.

Happened last year - Marussia were ahead until Brazil, when Petrov finished high enough to put Caterham in front.

I hope Marussia manage it this year - I was a Lotus Racing / Caterham fan but they should be doing better - they've got something like twice Marussia's budget

And Bianchi is a great pedaller.

Caterham need a wet/dry race and a couple of brave strategy calls. Sort of like last year, which the forecast suggests is entirely possible. Going to be very hard though.

A 12th place finish for Chilton would cause a few grumbles no doubt! hehe

It's a bit disappointing that Caterham didn't get 10th as their team performed better than Marussia for pretty much the entire year. I don't think the result reflects the entire season, rather a single race where 6 DNFs and changable conditions enabled Bianchi to finish 13st, effectively pushing 10th place out of reach of the Caterham drivers.

Caterham had the better car but Marussia have the better driver - Bianchi.

did eddie not do a wee feature on how both teams would now get financial support

I'm disappointed with Caterham.

I think they have probably the best looking cars on the grid. And it seems they have more sponsors and money than Marussia.

Why have they been so poor and clearly unable to even get a sniff at the midfielders?

I think it essentially comes down to luck when the winner is the one who gets a single 13th place.

I did a quick sum adding up these teams finishing positions (assuming a retirement = 22)

Bianchi = 339 (3 retirements)
Pic = 340 (4 retirements)
VD Garde = 345 (4 retirements)
Chilton = 345 (0 retirements)

Bianch won the race of the new teams 6 times
Pic won 7 times
VD Garde won 4 times
Chilton won twice

If reliability is really going to be an issue next year maybe they'll get a point with a bit of luck.

I nod off at the mere mention of these two teams. Four whole seasons and no real hint at progress towards the midfield. At least Minardi had some spirit, these two are just woefully bland and uninspiring. Lowdon was constantly on the Sky coverage this weekend as though they thought someone actually gave a st.
