After last years disappointing "charity auction prize" which was supposed to be a VIP F1 Trip for 2 to Monaco, which turned out to be.a same day fly out, 70 euro hillside standing ticket then a return flight home ... I promised myself (and my best mate) to do it properly this year and get ourselves on one of the yachts by the race track and I now quite fancy incorporating a euro road trip too.

Most likely that there'll just be two of us.

I know it will be far from a cheap break, but I don't really want to feel like I've been ripped off, so I'm thinking we are as well to arrange it all ourselves with the two primary options of either staying for the 2-3 nights on a yacht, or staying in a Monaco hotel and arranging separate race viewing from one of the yachts.

Never driven through Europe so it'll be a first but thinking driving to Monaco for the F1 would be one hell of a road trip and a great way to lose my euro driving virginity.

I'm sure there are people on here who have done this before, or are planning to do it this year, so thought I'd ask for any tips.

Few questions:
1. Which is best for low slung cars ... Tunnel or Ferry?
2. If booking yachts ... Can you park by the boat in the marina or do you have to book a separate car park?
3. Anyone stayed for the 2-3 nights on the harbour yachts? .. Good/bad?
4. Are the amber room and F1 drivers parties worth booking?
5. Any other advice or tips on routes, hotels etc, all much appreciated.

Google search has brought up some options ....

Then there was this one ... but £9,550k per person for staying in Monaco hotels, whilst taking my own car seems a touch steep, but otherwise exactly along the lines of what I had in mind trip wise.

Any info appreciated!

Cheers

first of all, you should probably know that your "best mate" has been saying really unpleasant things about you behind your back. you should really bin him off & look for a new best mate-i've checked my diary & i'm free that weekend so if you pop over an email i'll let you know when & where you can pick me up smile

in all seriousness, google "LOH mini adventure" & read my thread-i think somewhere around page 7 i go into detail about our road trip to monaco for our honeymoon last year-there are some ideas for you there.

i don't know about the GP weekend, but all the car ferrys know to look after the low slung cars & place them accordingly. if you're on the south coast i would just use the chunnel however as you just want to get on your way.

we stayed in the novotel in monaco itself. it's nice & probably not ridiculously priced & has a pool if lounging next to high class call girls is your thing.

more importantly is that it has a concierge & an underground car park.

why so important? well, what no one tells you is that part of the monaco experience is boy racering around town 24hrs a day! seriously! people love to be seen in their cars & any hotel worth it's salt will have a bell hop to fetch your car to the front door so you can go out & rev the nuts off your car between traffic lights, then dump it with him when you're done.

seriously-it's a very strange but funny tradition there, plus the gp track is only closed for the few hours that there is track action & if you have something nice you will get "papped" by the photographers.

if it were me, i'd be looking to stay in a hotel & watch the race from a boat.

my only other bit of advice would be not to bother with the route de soliel or the journey through france unless you're short on time. better to take an extra few days & go through the alps-there's nothing like coming over the hills & seeing the med stretching out in front of you & all the passes will be open at that time of year.

thumbup best of luck, it sounds like a wonderful trip

I have been to Monaco on several occasions at different months from Spring to Autumn. The place is certainly always full of attractive people. It is quite a shock to realise just what a high percentage of the best looking girls are on the game ! Zebra Square after 10pm is a like some kind of glamour/ fashion model shoot with the added weirdness that everyone and everything is for sale.

It shocked by English suburban sensibilities, I can tell you. smile
