Does F1 need a faster safety car?

Hamilton complaint of safety car going too slow. Safety car driver going as fast as possible. Has F1 reached the point where safety car needs to be quicker to keep more heat in race car tyres?

Personally I'd like to see the safety car being upgraded to an electric equivalent - such as the Porche 918 or LaFerrari. They're quicker, and more suited to the objectives of modern day F1 - plus they look spectacular.

Drivers are well aware their radio is broadcast, likely to be gamesmanship despite Lewis's protests he didn't seem to be doing much compared to other to build and maintain temps.

Back on topic i raised this point at the weekend with the missus, she agreed, it should be something more focussed on the task at hand, although it has to be said once Bernd Maylander was givent he hurry up it was an impressive bit of driving!

That being said i am struggling with a suitable replacement idea

I was at Brands in 1975 or so when, for reasons unexplained, the safety car followed the cars around the track on their first lap. We were at Paddock and could just see the Jaguar appear from under the bridge from the GP circuit, dive to the right, brake hard on the unused bit of track, just as the first car appeared.

Not quite it's sole purpose. It is to stop RACING. It could do with being quicker. Why not another older F1 car?

Would do better to work on keeping it out for less laps.

Should look at clearing cars quickly (some tracks are far better at this than others), a fast response road supersweepervaccuum instead of a bunch of dinnerladies with brooms, and looking at options to repair/reinstate tec pro quickly

Judging by a few comments from the drivers , if they want a faster safety car just use a GP2 car !

Also needs to be able to go out in wet conditions when the F1 cars start slipping off. So can't have the same fundamental problems associated with an F1 car in the wet.

Well.. The site of a WEC car as an F1 safety car would be something different!
But I believe it's better being a fast road car.. It needs to be reliable/available and capable of lapping at a decent pace.

Why not just limit the speed and the guy at front is responsible for not breaking the limit and the others just follow on behind.

Use technology to electronically control the cars to a defined set of speed parameters. Fine drivers who overtake or attempt to break format when 'under the flag'

Was there a time when the safety car was too quick in the wet for the F1 cars?
