That's probably about it - and he will be leaving long before the race finishes with a suitcase full of dollars.

According to the definitive Bernie book - he has never bothered to watch the end of any of the races in the past 30 years - he is not interested in any of that, just the huge amount of cash he gets.

a few of us have booked flights and hotel in the old town. from dubai the flights are dirt cheap so we're viewing it as a boys weekend away somewhere different with a race thrown in.

grandstand choice is the sticking point given its hard to judge where will be good. at least there's no rush to book the tickets!

A friend is going. Got a great deal at Fairmount £125 per night. But tickets with grandstand are available only for all 3 days at £300...apparently only 30,000 seats there.

I was considering going as I worked there for four years and still know some people in Baku, but unfortunately my work rota means I will be in Africa at the time. frown

I am sure anyone going will have a good time.

$395 for the stand we're looking at.

yes i had colleagues working there last year and apparently not a bad place to be stuck for a long weekend. i'll be in west africa myself until then so an unfettered pissup will be most welcome.

Clashing with Le Mans...... They don't deserve any spectators. As usual, F1 tries to ride roughshod over the rest of Motorsport.

I've been going to the Canadian GP for a few years. Looking into Baku - might be a last min plan.

What are the average flight costs from the UK? pref Manchester Airport

I'm thinking of making Baku my first ever F1 race, will grandstand be needed? Baku looks like a lovely city to explore aside from the racing too!

This is it, there's very little to go on really. Our hotel is in the old town but who's to say whether there's any decent vantage points? The tight section through turns 7-9 looks best to me.

I dunno, I imagine tight sections are fine if they are slow, but if not then you'll only ever see the cars whizz by. I'd be more interested in finding a wide straight into a tight corner where you'd hopefully see some overtaking under braking.

I may well be going. Spent five years there on and off and the change to the place was remarkable.

Well it's more visually interesting than many of the new circuits! The only draw back being once barriers and catch fencing is in place you probably won't see a lot of it.
