At the start of the season Haryanto wasn't anticipated to be much of a threat to the supposed next Mercedes wunderkid.
However after a bit of an up and down in the 1st couple of rounds i think Haryanto is keeping Wehrlein a lot more honest than perhaps 1st anticipated.

Being a couple of tenths adrift in qually for the last couple of races shows genuine speed against a very highly rated team mate, his race pace seems pretty decent and i dont think he has made many mistakes from memory?

I haven't really followed the junior careers of either so just intrigued as to what others views are on relative performance for this pairing compared to that anticipated at the start of the season?

I saw an article concerning driver movements that flagged up Wehrlein

He was expected to blow Haryanto away this year but it's been a lot closer than many thought it would be and, if anything, he's 'edged' him.

This to the extent that Esteban Ocon could be moved into position as Mercedes' potential new hope.

Most of the commentary I've read on this pairing reflects well on Haryanto rather than badly on Wehrlein.

From looking at the results on Wiki it looks good for Wehrlein.

Haryanto finished 2nd last in China (to Palmer) but has otherwise been last or retired.

Wehrlein meanwhile has finished ahead of Nasr, twice; both Force Indias in Bahrain; and Grosjean in China. I can't remember the reasons he beat the FIs and Grosjean but the point is that he was there to take advantage while Haryanto wasn't.
