Does anyone remember an F1 race at Brands in the 70s

I'm sure I can remember this but as no one else I've spoken with can, I think it possible that I've got it confused with another race.

I was at Brands, at Clearways, for a GP, this in the early/middle 70s. The pace car was a Jag saloon. For some strange reason it followed the cars on the first live lap.

The cars came past on their first lap and we were eagerly awaiting them coming around again when the Jag came under the bridge before clearways and almost skidded off the circuit to the right. And talking of right, right behind was the lead car.

Yet no one else saw it. Is my mind going?

It's possible that I've got confused with a sports car race, which I also used to follow.

If it was following the cars then it wasn't a pace car it was the medical car.

I doubt it would have been a GP. Even then, they'd have lapped the thing in two laps, if not one lap and safety cars and VSCs were not used then.

I was thinking it might be the old Aurora F1 championship for older F1 cars but that was mid to late 70s.
The Indycars also came to Brands in 1978. It wasn't that event by any chance?

There were many non-championship F1 races throughout the 70's. The one which sprung to mind at Brands was the Race of Champions which ran right through the 1970s.

Indeed there were. In the mid 1960s there were often up to six F1 events in Britain each year.

I'm sure Silverstone Syd used to follow the F1 cars in the Jag years ago until Bernie got a real hold on things.

Went to many F1 races at Brands in the 70s, can't remember any Jags and generally pace cars didn't feature in those days - however as mentioned above Silverstone Sid was a regular as a pack-follower at Silverstone.

Can anyone remember a van being used as a pace car at Brands ??? Dig deep, it did happen.

I was at nearly all F1 events at Brands in 70s and this one does not ring a bell.If you want the definitive answer log on to Autosport Nostalgia Forum and ask there. I think I am an anorak but compared to my fellow TNF-ers I am a mere dilettante..
