Very, very sad to hear this. He was always a "might have been" in his racing career but in later years was very phillosphical about how things turned out - and also very self effacing and funny.

What a shock. As you say 73 is no age these days.
A great racer whose results did not match his talents. If only he'd stayed with McLaren things could have been so different for him.
RIP Chris.

One of the fastest.
One of the best.
One of the most likeable.
A good combination.

Rip Chris.

That's a shame, often described as the best driver never to win an F1 race, I wouldn't disagree with that, fond memories of him in Mo Nunn's Ensign, pretty car and quick, did try to kill him a lot though.

40 years on from the LM win with Ford and the year Ford returned to La Sarthe is somewhat poetic in a sad way.

You weren't, by any chance, in charge of the Mercedes stop watch at Hockenheim?

The most interesting of which might be :
I met niki lauda in barcelona at F1 testing in March and when he knew i was from NZ the first thing he asked was how's Chris Amon? He said he was the fastest guy out there but could never get the car across the finish line. One of the greatest remebering another great one. Makes you proud to be a kiwi!!

No, I'm just trying to deny my actual age in any way possible.
