Can't blame Williams for doing this - with it looking increasingly likely they'll lose Bottas to Mercedes, they need an experienced driver in the team.
The only other option I could see would have been Button - but he's tied to McLaren for 2 seasons and if Stoffel isn't quite as good as he seems, McLaren may need to ask the question of Button regarding a return, too.
I'd love to see Williams find a loophole and get the jump on everyone in a Brawn-esque manner and deliver that missing title for Massa.

I guess that all but confirms Bottas at Merc for next year then. It's a bit disappointing (and slightly embarrasing) given his retirement announcement that was followed by the guard of honour type thing in the pit lane in Brazil. However I guess this is the best option for Williams as it means they will have an experienced driver for next year especially as other experienced drivers, that might have been available, have already signed with other teams.

They clearly had no other way of getting an experienced driver.
Button would have been better but as mentioned he is still under contract.
Williams perhaps should have signed Maldonaldo which would have been very exciting "as far as crashing" and a shed load of money from his sponsors.

Perhaps the title to this thread should have been "Williams shoots itself in foot!"
With McLaren likely to be improved next year you can easily envisage them fighting it out with Sauber and Hass for 6th position in the WCC.
Sure money this year and perhaps Lowe influencing the 2018 car positively might help, but I just see them sliding back to where they were before 2014. Swapping Bottas for Stroll cannot be a winning package.
McLaren and Williams being strong contenders is a dream for many UK fans. Sadly, I do not see them attacking the top three teams anytime in the foreseeable. History counts for nothing these days. A lesson learned when Lotus folded.
