It's great!
You can get the train virtually right to the entrance...of course it's mobbed at the end. We walked back, but it's miles!
Montreal is a great city & fully embraces the event. All the bars were decked out with regalia.
We hired a Dodge Challenger & went up to the Lauretian mountains. Not much there but great scenery.

Piece of piss to get to the track from down town. The subway takes you right there, and its not too busy. The city is fantastic over race week, tho I preferred it Weds Thurs as it gets pretty manic Fri Sat as you'd expect. I'd suggest if you can, stay in the city somewhere rather than outside.
Montreal was my favourite race to go to - I did F1 for 7 or so years.

Went in 2012 for my 40th birthday, was great, we stayed here - https://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/yuldb-delta... - wasn't too shabby!
We drove up from Toronto, but once we parked up, we used the subway to get to the circuit, it wasn't hard at all.
we had dinner here - http://gardemanger.ca/ - didn't bother with a reservation (though that might be a good idea), they managed to squeeze us in.
Old Montreal is worth a walk round, its all quaint and not very North American in feel, there is usually lots of street entertainment going on.
Another place to visit was this http://www.schwartzsdeli.com/ - its not very big, very old school in a quite neighbourhood but the sandwiches were amazing(Ben's is sadly long gone).
The people were very welcoming, the whole city truly gets into the race weekend mood, I would go again, but am aiming to do Monaco for my 50th, so am saving for that.
