As many of you know I detest modern F1, and as of today I somehow have to hate it more.
Why you may ask?
I follow a short oval formula called Formula 1 stock car racing, it has been around since the early 50's, much like F1. And the two have co-existed for over half a century without really bothering each other, yes the name is similar but it's almost like saying show jumping is like horse racing, the two could not be more different. Maybe part of the reason was this, an early driver was one B. Ecclestone.
Some friends set up a fan website over a decade ago, it has happily ticked along yet today we are told that the site has had to close down because the logo is red and white, the same colours as the garbage redesign s
terty did last year or whenever it was.
And we can't have blinkered F1 fans clicking on a page full of dirty stock cars now by mistake can we, I mean they are so alike.
If I have ever loathed a sport more I don't know. I might take up watching horse racing, a sport that exists for one reason, to make money. Oh hang on, are you reading F1 fans.

1) We don't 'know' you detest modern F1 at all. All we know is that you watch each and every race and then complain about what you didn't like. It's obvious you still enjoy the sport as you keep watching it!! I suppose you must like it in order to bother criticising it so much...
2) Why shut down the site? Just change the logo/name sharpish and pull references from the website in the mean time. 50 years with a 'conflicting' name could be viewed as "why should it be an issue now". Another way to look at it would be "To be fair, we got away with this for 50 years, it's maybe time"..
I'm sure you can't wait for them to change their name, avoid any possible confusion with a sport you hate so much.

I used to run F1 fanzine websites. They would tick along for nearly a season and then I'd get an email telling me to desist 'cause I had F1 in the URL. I changed the name to something else with F1 in it and I got another nasty letter. The third time I decided to give up and delete F1 from the URL. Everyone happy.
Going by what you posted, it seems that they are more concerned about the logo rather than the URL. Perhaps they've mellowed over the years. If they have complained about the colour, then I think the solution is . . . you know though. How about using SC or StC or something similar and have F1 in the description?
Now take this as supportive, but if you've been using the same logo with the same colours for over 10 years then all they've done is get you to do something you should have done a few years ago.

That's nothing like the F1 logo, however it's similar to the F1 Racing magazine - https://www.f1racing.com/Not my site, I don;t have anything to do with it, but it was well run, up to date and decent, for a tiny sport, a rare thing.
Ignoring the cretins who hate no matter what.
I would hope the logo can just be changed.
But really? You dopes go on about me, but this means someone somewhere has found this, contacted their lawyers, contacted the website, it's a bit pathetic really.

At one time the powers that be that run F1 tried to block any other organisations from using the term "Grand Prix" in their promotion or event nomenclature. Thankfully, they were told to "bog off" by the courts on the grounds that "Grand Prix" was a long established expression that applied to many sports and cultural events and was not unique to Formula 1 or even motor sport.Going by what you posted, it seems that they are more concerned about the logo rather than the URL. So why didn’t they just change the logo at first opportunity...I’d guess first thing would have been a letter from their lawyers instructing the website to drop the logo....I’m sure it would have been easy to come up with a new oneIgnoring the cretins who hate no matter what.

Just stick an "®" after the "F1".I'm sure that'll keep the lawyers happy

Here's a positive way of thinking about it.. F1 top brass probably couldn't care less about this stock series or it's site, or it's logo - or the fact it's termed "F1" (c'mon...). But like all large organisations they will employ a team of people to search out anyone that could be a threat. These people are there to find anything that could be considered infringing, and will then pass it up to the legal team to review. If they think what they find is unreasonable, a standard 'cease notice' gets sent out. So I doubt very much someone 'reported' this. It's far more likely that it's such a none concern to F1 that it's either gone entirely unnoticed or simply ignored until now.
However, once the cease notice is given, it's on the system, will be followed up and now the logo/name will need to be changed - unless fake F1 has a large enough budget to take on real F1, and ultimately still lose anyway.
Either way, is it a big deal? No.
The site was over 10 years old, I think that logo was designed by a kid!!
I hope ti can be resurrected, but to think someone sought it out, and did al this leaves a bitter taste,.
Heartwarming it is not
Especially from a sport that is no threat whatsoever in any way either in terms of tv, rivalry, merch, anything.

So again, why didn’t they just change or remove the logo....surely that would have been easier than getting the site shut down...I hope ti can be resurrected, but to think someone sought it out, and did al this leaves a bitter taste,.
