- Will Mercedes’ trick steering see them lock out the front row and take the 1-2…again?
- Who is going to be up there with Mercedes - will Rari keep the pressure? Or will we see Vettel’s trademark pirouette?
- Will Willams finish somewhere that isn’t last and last-but-one?

2019 Race
- After locking out the front row, Bottas took the first win of 2019, however Mercedes brought home the 1-2
- I really felt for Danny Ric - his incident in the first few meters of the race and then going on to DNF at his home GP
- Carlos Sainz also didn’t finish the race which fortunately didn’t set the tone for his 2019 campaign

We all look forward to it then it's a borefest. Need a few corner redesigns.
Last year I woke early to watch it live, cracked open a beer and was ready to see how DR would get on in the Renault for the first time and at his home race. Within a few metres of leaving the line, he'd broken his front wing and driven over it.That was actually the highlight of the race
Anyhow, still excited to wake up early again this year

I'll be at work, might be able to sneak home early just to see the race That was actually the highlight of the race

Oooh. Love the first race of a season and usually watch each session several times over.
Anyone seen any bookies offering odds on merc set a new record and win every single race this season? I can't find any. Probably only like 3/1 anyway.
Predictions;
Mercedes to win; Some other cars to feature. Looks close in quali, race pace is a cruise with that DAS system.

my money says it will get cancelled, to many people and lots of equipment travelling across the world.
If the Melbourne GP gets cancelled then they might as well cancel the entire season. Australia has an excellent healthcare system and a super low density population - if they can't keep on top of the spread then honestly, where else can?I'm aware that the authorities in Australia are making some noises about cancelling sporting events - really hope it doesn't extend to the F1 season opener though.

The F1 circus is almost designed to help spread a contagious virus. Vast numbers of people fly from around the world to gather in a single location. Then all fly home, and a fortnight later do the same to another continent.
Hopefully calmer heads will prevail and it all goes ahead as planned.

I’ve been talking about this with colleagues. I think Australia can be quite sensitive about biosecurity. The Ferrari contingent from Northern Italy might be a concern.

I get the risks, and that Australia is in general quite conservative when it comes to protecting their country and citizens. But if we lose a GP in a very modern and relatively lightly affected country due to the virus, then that sets one hell of a precedent. It would put the authorities in other countries under pressure to do the same, on the basis that if they don't and there is even a single provable transfer of the virus at the GP, they would be 'to blame'.The F1 circus is almost designed to help spread a contagious virus. Fingers very much crossed that it goes ahead.

Well it does say "Motorsport is dangerous" on the back of every ticket. The World Superbike teams are out there at the moment, Philip Island. Testing earlier this week and first races of the season this weekend. Most of the teams are either based in Spain or Italy, no mention of any issues or concerns with people travelling at the moment. Although in another month things could change a lot.

If things are going to change they need to decide sharpish. The GP is in 2 weeks.. People will be boarding flights in less than 2 weeks.I can't see it being cancelled. I would hope however they take the risks seriously and get imaginative about initiatives to ensure people are keeping their hands clean and being basically thoughtful human beings whilst sharing the stands together. F1 fans are by and large reasonable folk and I'm sure a lot could be done to keep people safe without spoiling the fun. If they play it right, they could be applauded for showing how these events can be held without unreasonable risks.
