I guess there would be issues with fair representation from teams and bias etc but F1 and Codemasters are missing a bit of a trick here - invite the drivers to race in an online championship, proceeds to go to charity supporting research into Covid-19 etc.

Most of the drivers race online anyway, it would be really interesting to watch and a bit of lighthearted fun (if you think that the drivers wouldn't take this seriously)!

The F1 2019 race that Lando, Stoffel and a few others did last night was embarrassing. No crash damage, auto ers, most had traction control and ABS enabled yet they were still going off left right and centre. Mind you F1 2019 isn't the right platform really. They would be better basing anything off iRacing or ACC.

I was surprised how bad some of the professionals did!

I was switching streams on Youtube and Twitch and while it wasn't the greatest thing ever, it was still fun and apparently Lando Norris got the record of the most views ever for a live stream so at least there was a positive.

Thanks for the heads up. I've not watched all of it, or watched it properly, but got Palmer's cabbage. Nice to see sons of famous drivers involved.

Was Jamie Chadwick or whatever her name is involved?

Stick 'em all in pre-68 F1s, that'll sort the men from the boys.

Why? Would you be surprised if a pro-gamer did poorly in a real F1 test session?

Shows you how realistic it is then.

Watched a little bit of the one Verstappen was in. The thought it was really shonky. The graphics and physics looked poor, maybe for the drivers they are good, but as a spectacle it was very poor. Plus the commentators, Nichols and Palmer, were clearly getting different pictures to the viewers.

Agreed. I watched half of the first race and got bored. The physics was really clunky. Whenever someone lost the rear end, it would almost jump from side to side. Not smooth in the slightest.

Plus it was more like a game of bumper cars.

I thought it looked pretty smooth compared to my experience of online racing with the old Pistonheads racing leagues (PHPCC) - which was brilliant fun. I'd say, when racing against other trusted drivers, it was at least as fun and exciting as indoor karting. Also much cheaper, and a wider range of vehicles and tracks available.

What I noticed is that my car felt normal, game-wise at least, but other competitors cars were a bit more jumpy when sliding. They were positioned just fine on the road but when they started skidding their positional update seemed to have a frequency low enough to notice. I'm sure my car looked the same to them, and their car felt fine to the driver. It didn't detract from the racing because the car was still in the right place and easy enough to avoid. And this looked better than I remember it in my experiences.

I think the jumpiness when sliding around is due to network lag and isn't experienced by the driver of the sliding car.

Oh, and I'd agree, far more interesting to compete in than to watch.

I think the point is when real racing is a no no, then at least we can see the drivers race and have fun in esports...

esports is right now, the only sport.
It was a mild distraction to some very very worrying times we are in........that it was put together so quickly and so many wanted to be involved should be applauded IMO...

Never has the importance of sport to us as humans been more evident now its gone....

As Klopp the Liverpool manager said

“the most important of the least important things”

But by god do we need some light in all the darkness...

Aussie V8 drivers are organizing some races too and NASCAR did it on iRacing....its just fun.

You know, I agree that, with famous names behind it, it is light entertainment if nothing like watching the real thing, because at least with the famous names it gives me someone to support... or boo..

I still have some old races from the Pistonheads Production Car Championship (PHPCC) on my Playstation, and I know who to support on those races too! Maybe I should watch those again hehe

It's all well and good joking... If C4 did want to show any of the virtual GP's they probably would be limited to highlights!
