Trophies of defunct teams
Discussion
With all the talk of classic F1 cars and where they end up, I wondered the other day about the trophies won by manufacturers who are now no longer in existence. Where do they go? Where do they end up?
I'm thinking of teams like Ligier, Arrows and Leyton House/March. Teams that just cease to exist. I'd assume teams like Tyrrell who morph in to other teams have the trophies go with them, but teams that just go bump, what happens to them?

Some very high-profile defunct names still near the top (Lotus, Brabham etc)Makes for interesting reading and March were 3 rather than two so I got that wrong!

Not a Formula 1 trophy ....but I found and bought a trophy won at Mugello in 1994 by who , I have no idea , in a salvage shop
in Lucca.
Cost me 10 or 15 Euros from memory .
I tried to research who won it but info on Formula Alfa Boxer in the 90s isn't great .
there's a reasonable chance that it might have been won by Tony Kanaan, as he won that years championship.in Lucca.

However if it is keeping you awake at night, I'd suggest contacting Cram Motorsport on FB ( formerly Cram Competition) and asking if they knew who came top 3 in Mugello 1994. (Cram were the series champions that year)

That's what I mean. Big names went bust who won races and would've got trophies. Cars get bought up but I don't recall anyone ever saying "Here is a trophy that Brabham won from Monaco in 1982". Where do they go?!Some very high-profile defunct names still near the top (Lotus, Brabham etc)Makes for interesting reading and March were 3 rather than two so I got that wrong!

Very few of those actually went bust, though. Some of them were manufacturers or other corporations which still exist but just not in F1 anymore, so they probably still have the trophies somewhere within their organisation. Others teams were sold or taken over by other teams, so those trophies probably either went along in the deal with the other assets, or were retained by the team founders as mementos. Bernie probably kept all of the Brabham trophies, just as he kept most of their old cars. Some very high-profile defunct names still near the top (Lotus, Brabham etc)Makes for interesting reading and March were 3 rather than two so I got that wrong!

Ligier had nine wins and March two so that's a fair-sized shoebox given the size of F1 trophies ...
Ligier still make cars and run a race team, just not in F1. Or is that a case of same name but different entity? The Ligier F1 team went through the hands of Flavio Briatore and Tom Walkinshaw before becoming Prost which eventually went bust.
Just seen a 1979 documentary on Niki Lauda ,he was asked why he had no trophies in his home .
"I gave them all to the guy at the local petrol station "
"Do you get anything in return ? "
"I get a free car wash occasionally "......
I do hope they are all still on display at the filling station 41 years later .
