It can't just be me surely?

Ferrari spend last season cheating with their engine, everyone is happy.. Ferrari are able to compete with Mercs and even have the edge on power dominated circuits. An entire season of points scored by cheats. FIA don't complain nor do anything even when clear cheating is discovered.. NO sanctions.

But now the cheating is discovered and the engine is turned back down, Mercs are back on top by a long shot. Instead of saying Well Done Merc everyone must catch up, instead the FIA look to nobble the Mercs so that Ferrari have a better chance (not that I think it will work as the Merc engineering is leagues ahead IMHO).

What kind of s**tshow is this? It is like Ferrari are Formula 1 and the other teams, who spend hundreds of millions a year, are just there to show off how "good" Ferrari are....

Please note where cheating is stated above that phrase is used for convenience and "allegedly" be inserted before each reference as the cheating has not been proven. It damn well looks clear, but it is not confirmed so is alleged..........

F1 was a big draw for me 20- 25 years ago. It felt like a 'pure' sport; man & machine in harmony, guts, overtaking etc.

Going to Silverstone was was dream come true.

But I started to feel exactly as you say; it was man, machine and lawyers in perfect harmony. And Ferrari had the lawyer power, and the star power and the money.

I'm no expert but F1, (like professional boxing) feels like an entertainment franchise for the mugs to get excited about.

The cheating can't be confirmed because of the corrupt hush hush deal between the fia and Ferrari.

All the proof you need is Hamilton not being able to overtake Charles at Monza with DRS, Slipstream and ers deployment.

Why not just type allegedly or alleged in the relevant places?

Because F1 is entertainment, same reason they needed to nerf Ferrari with the tyre rules in 2005. If they make Ferrari very noncompetitive Mercedes will be even more dominant

I still don’t see what they can actually propose that won’t make life comparatively better for Mercedes.

Racing prototype cars is a trade off between performance and reliability, but right now the Mercs are both the highest performers and the most reliable.

If they find a way to ban Strat Mode 13 “Party Mode”, they’ll add performance onto the other modes so it balances out the wear rate of the engine. It’ll still need rebuilding, and the seals broken, after seven events, but will produce more power in the standard race modes than it does now.

This is why Ferrari appealing the racing point verdict in the interest of clarity is such a piss take. The hypocrisy is staggering.

Indeed. I almost wanted to punch Cyril when he said he was pleased Ferrari had joined because having such an honest and fair team supporting the request for transparency helped their case...... I mean seriously???!?!?

I can't imagine anything other than Stroll's legal team demanding that information be provided in relation to the alleged cheating Ferrari because of equality etc before the FIA....

It was Red Bull who asked for clarification of "party mode".

The fact that Ferrari may have had long term 'support' from the the governing body isn't the question that needs to be asked.

It's that having had this 'support', how they've managed to do so little with it?

To quote an old boss of mine..."it's like they can do two jobs at the same time and fk up all three of them'.

Ferrari is the face of F1 so they need extra help, F1 needs Ferrari more than Ferrari needs F1 and we all know it

Overall globally there is probably a good argument that Hamilton is bigger than Ferrari in terms of casual fans, 'influence', column inches etc.

That's for another thread though (don't start one!)

Drivers come and go. Hamilton will eventually retire. Ferrari won't.

Historically speaking the strength of association between Ferrari and F1 is undisputed. I do question this strength today. If we look at Grand Prix racing from its time pre F1, one could argue Mercedes could claim similar strength of association.

Still a Mercedes 1-2 today so they will need to work hard to slow them down. Maybe reverse the qualifying order frown

The two pillars the prop Formula One up are Monaco and Ferrari, in the minds of the general public they are F1 & always have been. Bernie and Max were very aware of this from day one. Take them away and to the casual viewer you haven't got much of a brand.

True. Whether we like it or not.

Monaco should no longer exist on the race calender but it's reputational and generates proper £££, hence its special dispensation to be licensed.

Haha yes. Both are on fairly shaky ground as they discuss fair play!

I don't know how these guys keep a straight face when they say such things - I couldn't do it.
