Face masks... what’s going on..

So, F1, leading edge tech, lots of very very clever peeps. Massive development programmes, everything right up there. Apart from the face masks. Why oh why can’t they have masks that they don’t have to constantly pull back up their faces every five seconds during interviews? I mean really. Properly annoys me. Ferrari are the worst too. Seb can’t say more than five words without repositioning the poxy thing back up his gob...

The channel 4 crew - Jones, Coulthard, monger etc. - are usually out in the open air and at least 2 metres apart, so I don't know why they bother with the damned things.

I'm more confused with the fact they are all tested before entering the circuit, yet still wear masks.

Are the C4 Crew at the circuit? If not I reckon it’s an FIA thing for everyone at the event

I thought there was an F1 agreement to use facemasks in any situation during the race weekend to promote their use for the worldwide viewing public, not because they particularly needed to.

Well I guess when you’re travelling the world, trying create an environment limiting risk, coming into contact with thousands of other people within said environment I guess for the sake of pulling up a face mask occasionally, it’s better to be on the safe side of things and do the responsible thing for all involved?

COVID has a higher infection rate than seasonal flu

COVID currently has a higher death rate than seasonal flu

.....or am I missing a key part of the reason that this entire year has been turned upside down by something that is a myth?

Yes, it’s a requirement for everyone anyone at the circuit to wear a mask and to keep their distance from anyone not in their own bubble group.

Part of the FIA and FOM rules to ensure that F1 remains free of Covid-19, and - this is the really important bit - governments trust F1 sufficiently to waive a whole load of rules about movement and quarantine.

So far, with one notable exception, it’s been very successful. F1 is about the only intnational touring sport to have a 2020 calendar at all.

It's true - the infection rate within the paddock has been zero, all from outside and even then mostly people have been cautious enough to be above average safe whilst flying around the world.

The government (s) indeed looked to F1 to both prove and then promote how major events can continue safely - good work F1!
