Perez - karma caught up with him
Discussion
Perez how did he keep that seat for 7 years?
The number of needless accidents he caused with team mates must rank higher than in any other driver before, especially when he was paired with Ocon.
Spa 2020 and he was still up to those knuckle head manoeuvres when it looked like he was going to push Ocon into the old pit wall on the run up to eau rouge - That’s his Karma catching up on him getting booted out the team with no pre warning.

No pre-warning? I could have sworn we were discussing the possibility on here for the last several months. Maybe he should log in more often
As for the rest of it, I imagine he was just being the F1 driver he could be. I have no doubt he stayed awake at night sometimes and dug deep to find improvement - including how best to prove he is a dominant driver, same as any other driver or in fact anyone doing anything they care about and wish to continue doing. He just wasn't amazing in the end... Granted, it has been a long time and little to write home about.
50/50 he'll find a new drive. Frankly Haas could use ejecting a driver at this point purely to remind people they're still serious about trying to improve. Haas seems best bet.

Not sorry to see him go. I have never warmed to him as a driver to be honest (I am sure he’s not worried), he’s always seemed a bit of a liability wheel to wheel and frustrated me no end at times watching him ignore blue flags, just generally comes across as unsporting to me.
Yes he can manage a set of tyres but beyond that, good riddance.

Yep, probably for Grosjean who's never been especially good but was at least a little quicker/less crashy than Magnussen...in previous years. This year Magnussen seems to have been both significantly quicker than Grosjean and also less of a moving accident.Either that or maybe replacing Latifi at Williams? Hasn't really shone in the same way as Russel and there should be a bit more money sitting in the Williams bank account now.

he put his job at risk and saved hundreds of jobs......not sure how this is karma.
Thats a good point, his sponsor and court action saved the team when the last team owner was running them into a position where they would have gone bust (pre anything to do with the Stroll family and AM).I'm not sure why I should 'warm' to any driver to appreciate their skill. He's had, and caused, enough accidents, but then so did Hunt and no one seemed to hold that against him after he became WDC. (Other accident-prone drivers are available.)
Perez has improved no end of late and I doubt he'd have done a worse job than Vettel, and for considerably less pay.
Vettel might bring sponsors and TV coverage, especially if he gets back to his old level of performance, but will he bring more points? But then, it's not my money.

I don't think Karma has anything to do with it and I don't think it is remotely deserved either.
Over the past 7 years Perez has consistently been the main points scorer for the team and they have him to thank for a big haul of points, prize money and the odd podium. He was also the reason that people at the race team still have their jobs. He made a bold choice and good for him as it helped the team survive.
Sure he had issues with Ocon, but I think they were just as bad as each other to be honest. It wasn't a Perez centric issue, more a young charger in Ocon trying to put a marker on the established guy in Sergio who wouldn't budge and they met in the middle too often. To my mind the team didn't manage that well enough at the time.
The reality is that loyalty doesn't count for much in F1 and they have decided to go a different way which is fair enough. I can see the Vettel attraction for a brand like Aston Martin and they made their choice. It has nothing to do with Karma... its business.
Whether Perez would have been better with Vettel than Stroll is open to debate but Lance has improved a lot this year and is sitting 4th in the championship. When you consider this, and the fact that his father owns the team, I don't think Sergio can be particularly shocked about being dumped despite having a 3 year deal in his pocket.
Times change, and I am sure the $9m pay off will soften the blow.

And he didn’t save the team, his action put it into administration which enabled a rescue that may have happened in any case.

I’m not sure I said you should. I didn’t say he wasn’t quick or without talent. He is just, purely in my own opinion, prone to acting on track in a way that I find frustrating and unsportsmanlike or even dangerous at times. He’s clearly not without talent nor is he the only one on the grid to behave in that way, far from it, but for me his history of behaviour on track means if he were to leave f1 he is not a driver I would miss.

I’m sure Perez won’t struggle to find a drive. Isn’t he backed by the guy who owns America Mobil, who owns part of Telmex amongst other things. 12 richest man in the world according to Forbes 2020 list, compared to Stroll at number 804.
I’m sure Hass/Williams or another team will happily take the money he brings.
Personally I’d like to see the back of Latifi, he’s been throughly tranced by Russell this year and doesn’t seem up to much. It would be good for Russel to have someone with Perez experience in the team to help develop the car.

I’m sure they would take his money but he’s said he’s not taking it to a project that won’t 100% motivate him, which seems to mean he won’t be taking it to a team to just roll around at the back. Maybe he’ll change his mind if he finds that’s all there is. If his backers stay with him.I’m sure Hass/Williams or another team will happily take the money he brings.
