I've been watching either highlights or full races of these seasons over the last few days.
Considering the palava over all the aero addons supposedly promoting awful racing and the need to change for 2009 to the godawful snowplow front and really high and narrow rear wings I can't understand at all why it was needed to change.
They're fantastic seasons.
High drama with the Spygate scandal and also Singapore-gate with Piquet Jr crashing for Alonso.
The final year of perfectly proportioned cars - I absolutely adore the aero stuff as engineering porn but I understand they completely detract from the purity of the lines admittedly - the right size wings, not too long and thin as has been the case from 2010 onwards - every car looks really neat and nimble to me.
The races are frantic and the cars sound really, really angry. Refuelling still involves interesting strategies but the tyres aren't Pirelli so it feels like every driver is absolutely on it in each stint which is missing massively nowadays. The amount of sliding around and late braking and cars getting close to each other for overtakes is considerable versus current cars.
I was waivering in my F1 fandom at the time if I remember, I think I watched most races but don't remember these two years that well and going back to them revealed that they were fiercely competitive at the top and you never knew who was gonna finish behind the Ferrari/McLaren battle because all of the other teams seemed to blend into one singular midifeld wijth random points and podium finishers.
Kubica and Vettel getting surprise wins too.
Lots of weather interrupted races making things interesting as well, like at the Nurburgring in 2007.
I think they get really bad rep and it's unjustified for two great F1 seasons. What say you PH?

I say Timo Glock's a prick and owes me £5.
Is that Glock? Is that Glock, going slowly?
IT IS! THAT’S GLOCK!

Make you sick thinking about it. Massa deserved a title. Lewis has loads of them. Must feel guilty being such a glutton.
Interesting viewpoint, why do you think Massa deserved it? Look at the season in detail and he had loads of 'help' from the FIA, yet still did not manage it.Agree that it was a great time compared to what we have now although 09 and 10 trump it for me.
09 an unknown independent team with no sponsors, no money, inderrated drivers and the wrong engine shoved in the back at the last minute manage to win the championship (can't see that happening again).
In 10 5 different drivers could still win the championship with only a few races left which made it quite exciting compared to todays debacle .
Although the tall wings looked odd, i actually really loved the simplicity of the cars as well. In both aero and engine tech, considering it was only 10 years ago they were worlds away to what we have now (and its not necessarily for the better)

What’s not often said was that his gamble paid off - he moved up a couple of places compared to where he would have been if he’d pitted with everyone else for the rain tyres, even though he ultimately lost out to Vettel and Hamilton on the last lap.
Massa did indeed deserve a title, and came so close to winning one, but that Brazillian Grand Prix was one of the sporting moments of the decade, up there with England winning the Ashes in 2005, and Liverpool the European Cup on penalties the same year, having been 3-0 down at half time.

I had £5 on Massa, and it absolutely broke my heart to see him on the podium, to only then nearly die in Hungary the next year. And all of those feelings come flooding back when he crashed out at Brazil in (what should've been) his final GP, to walk down the pit road with everyone applauding him. I was in tears when that happened, wasn't prepared for that level of emotion. Compare that to how we now get Lewis being insufferable, the wrong man won really.
But I believe that, if the multi-verse is a thing, that Massa won that title. And that Glock never got to F1. Webber is a 3 time world champion. Vettel won a title with Ferrari etc.

you can thank Flavio/ Fred/ Piquet for that angrymoby said:

you can thank Flavio/ Fred/ Piquet for that The botched Ferrari pit stop cost him, not Piquet.
In my view that incident actually levelled the score a bit for Lewis who had been on the end of a few dodgy FIA calls throughout the year.
The right driver won the title in 2008, but Massa rightly won everyone's hearts.

Imagine making the sport cheaper, simpler, more entertaining, more diverse, more impressive, all in one fell swoop. Please, surely it must be done.

Thanks, usually most f1 related videos I come across are pulled under copyrights
Yeah, unfortunately YT is a lottery.I've been compiling playlists for each year of everything that gets uploaded but very often they need pruning because videos have been deleted a few days later.
Keeping the playlists unlisted doesn't really seem to do much so I might just make them public.
With hindsight, they are both fascinating seasons but not necessarily for the racing.
In 2007, the only racing excitement that sticks in my mind was Hamilton fending off Alonso at Indianapolis. Of course, there were lots of incidents and intrigue like Alonso's blocking Hamilton in qualifying, Kubica's crash, Spygate, cars skating off the track at the Nurburgring and Hamilton losing his big lead in th WDC on the final 2 races etc. etc.
2008 had some great racing at Silverstone, Spa and Brazil. I have watched all these races many times and would do so again.
Considering all that went on behind the scenes and how the 2008 season ended. I'd be surprised if someone doesn't make a film about those 2 seasons before too long.
