As lovely as Alex is, I simply don't think he has done enough to keep an F1 seat. Of course, the owners of the team may disagree....

Confirmed apparently.

If Perez fails there as wellnas Gasly and Kvyat then I think it will be clear that the car is currently designed in a way that is only driveable by verstappen

I think Red Bull will be serious contenders for the WCC with Perez. They would probably need Bottas to finish 4th in the WDC - he was lucky to get 2nd this year. However, I don't think it's out of the question for Max and Checo to be 2nd and 3rd (assuming RBR don't have as many DNF's as this year and Ferrari don't catch up).

The Race's Gary Anderson podcast speaks about this, Gary's argument was that the Alpha Tauri is less "peaky" and a more balanced car compared to the Red Bull where it bites you if you take your eye off the ball for a moment.

It's also odd to consider that the two drivers who left a "race winning" car at Red Bull (Sainz and Ricciardo) have gone on to have great careers in F1, whereas the others who decided to stay in the Red Bull fold haven't fared as well, Kvyat being a good example.

The second Red Bull seat has always been a bit of a poisoned Chalice, right from day one, remember the bizarre Luizzi/ Klein 50/50 drive in

2005?

Albon seems like a nice Guy & I wish he could have achieved more, however Perez has matured greatly since his year at Mclaren so he may

well be the one to equal things up in the Red Bull Garage. I look forward to seeing how this plays out.

Depends on the seat, he performed brilliantly given he came into the Alpha Torauri Rosso at the last minute and performed well in the Red Bull in the second half of last year. There's something that seems to be wrong with this years car that Max manages to drive around better than Albon has.

This could be, and probably will be, Perez’s biggest career mistake..... poisoned chalice. He needs to be right up Verstappens arse or he’ll be Gasley/Albon mk 3.

Hes going from a stress free team away from pressure to the hornets nest.

He’s shone at RP because Stroll is so poor!

Better than no drive though.

Faced with the choice of RB now or sit out a year then get a seat in the Williams I think he's better going for the RB drive tbh. He's a good driver but F1 drivers a quickly forgotten when they aren't on the grid and lets be honest the Williams seat isn't going to be better than fighting for midfield points at best in all likelihood.

I get that it’s better than sitting on your arse, just that this could end up being a big mistake......

If he kicks verstappens arse then all good, but can you really see it happening? And when he doesnt and can’t get near him and cant figure out how Verstappen does it, he’ll be chasing his car in the way that both Gasly and Albon have done.

Team dynamics will be interesting. Perez is just as feisty.
Reading Max’s comments in Autosport about having a second car to support (him).....
Sparks will fly, hopefully. Should be entertaining!

Unusual for Albon to be the reserve driver rather than drop to Alpha Tauri?

The difference is Perez has the experience to know if it’s the car that’s too tricky to drive. Most of the drivers promoted to Red Bull only have the RB junior team for comparison. And being part of the Red Bull program doesn’t give them confidence to speak up.

AT already full.

Gastly has had a very good season and is going nowhere.

The new Honda protégée is incoming and they don’t want to upset them.

Yep, but that doesn't usually bother them hehe

How is it a mistake? Choose between going up against a rising star to prove yourself or sit on the sidelines with no job.

I know which I’d choose!

A chunk of change in the bank and the opportunity to upset Verstappen bottom lip!

If he can’t get near Verstappen his F1 career will be over... those drives he potentially has in 2022 will disappear.

If he’s further away than Albon was then he won’t last the year.

It’s win or bust!

The only top driver he’s been up against in a team was Button and that didnt last long....

Exactly. If he hasn't got the belief in his own abilities to do the job then he shouldn't be in F1 anyway so it's a no lose. He either does a great job and gets a nice contract extension or he goes onto something else knowing he had the shot and couldn't cut it which is way more than most people ever get.
