Sad news indeed. I've been watching F1 on TV for over 40 years.
His commentary and Fleetwood Mac's "The Chain" are my abiding memories of TV coverage of F1 in the "olden days".
A truly knowledgeable, enthusiastic commentator and a gentleman in the true sense.

RIP. Lovely bloke and spent 20 mins chatting with him at Goodwood 2003. A voice from my childhood that got me hooked on F1.

Very sad, the world loses a thoroughly decent chap and we have too few to begin with.

F1 hadn’t been the same without him; mistakes and all. Sad day for motorsport. Rest in Peace Murray.

I think he would chat to anyone, I had a good chat with him at Goodwood too. Lovely man, very easy going, plus of course, his commentary was legendary! RIP Murray. bow

No words really. Thanks for drawing me in to F1 and explaining it in a way I could care about, aged 8.

Murray was an absolute legend, and a voice we all grew up listening to. He was, and will always be, the true voice of F1. Condolences to his family & friends.

Met him once at the 1994 British GP, true Gent. His voice takes me back to my childhood growing up watching F1 on the BBC on Sundays
