Terrible news that Johnny Dumfries has died.

62, no age at all.

So sad.

Another hero lost.

Any man who wins Le Mans driving a Jaguar is royalty in my book.
The thing is he actually was - nearly.

RIP

Same age as me as well.

Sad to hear the news earlier this afternoon - a decent racer who did a good job in F1 & then took a Le Mans victory. Makes you wonder what he night have achieved in F1 had he not been unceremoniously dumped by Lotus.

Losing Johnny, Sabine & Murray all in the space of 10 days seems somewhat harsh.

RIP.

Terrible news, saw him a lot in F3 when I lived just down the road from Brands. He was quick back then.

We've lost too many people from our passion this month... frown

Such a loss. Although short, he appeared to have had a life well lived. RIP.

Sad news. There’s a good onboard video of him In the Lotus 98T on YouTube (although it’s another reminder of how far F1 has fallen).

Senna blocked Derek Warwick from joining Lotus because he thought the team didn't have the resources to build and support cars for two number 1 drivers. That's what gave Johnny his chance in the car, but it also makes me wonder how much better he would have done if his Lotus had been as good a car as Senna's.

Damn, 62 is nothing. A sad start to 2021 for the motor racing community, too many lost souls. Rest in peace.

We know that Honda played with the power output of its engines re senna / Prost according to Ron Dennis in an interview. I don’t think anyone has ever said whether different drivers had different tyres, although him sure it went on. Happened in Moto gp, Rossi and a few others had special ‘overnight’ Michelin tyres. I think Mike salo once said hakkiben had special tyres ( ie different to all other teams) for the 98 Suzuka race.

There have always been very strong rumours that the tyres that Maldonado had for his only victory were also a bit 'special'.
