Was listening to the excellent 'Bring back V10s' podcast the other day (thoroughly recommended) and an interesting question arose.

I am usually anti could-have-would-have-should-have but, just for fun:

It's late 1992/early 1993. Ron Dennis agrees to drop his Shell fuel deal to take Renault engines and Elf for the 1993 season.

Further north near Grove, Nigel Mansell also decides that Indycar isn't for him and that he'll take on Prost for 1993 after all.

So, in 1993, we have Mansell vs Prost in the 1993 Williams with Senna in the '93 McLaren with Renault power.

Who comes out on top?

I concluded to myself that Mansell liked the Active Suspension car a lot more than Prost, so would have beaten him in it, but I can't decide if he'd have beaten Senna in the McLaren if the McLaren had a bit more poke. In our actual universe, Senna was using customer Ford V8s and still won 5 races....

What do you think?

Any other interesting parallel universes?

Senna 1st

Mansell 2nd

Prost 3rd

Senna would have died a 4-time champion. Prost would have 3 championships and Mansell would never have won the IndyCar championship and Fittipaldi would have won 2 IndyCar championships.

Adu Dhabi 2014. It's double points for the last race, and Lewis Hamilton has gearbox issues that ruin his race rather than Rosberg. Due to the controversial last race double points fiasco Nico Rosberg is 2014 WDC and the internet is still in melt down to this day.

Senna gets out of his Williams at Imola in 1994 after the crash and goes on to win the 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997 F1 world championships for Williams.

Moves to Mclaren for 1998 and wins the 1998 and 1999 F1 world championships for McLaren then retires at the age of 39 as a 9-time F1 world champion.

I always thought he said he’d finish his career at Ferrari?

Here’s another

Having started on pole for the first two races of 2000, Mike Hakkinen doesn’t retire from those races and instead wins.
Those points mean that he ultimately wins the 2000 WDC.

Does Ferrari still stick with Schumacher after 5 years of no title?

Surely that question is does Schumacher stick with Ferrari after 5 years and no title?
