"The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorised the charging of Bernard Charles Ecclestone with fraud by false representation, following a HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) investigation.

Simon York, Director, Fraud Investigation Service (FIS), HMRC, said: “We can confirm that a fraud by false representation charge has been authorised against Bernard Ecclestone. This follows a complex and worldwide criminal investigation by HMRC's Fraud Investigation Service. The criminal charge relates to projected tax liabilities arising from more than £400m of offshore assets which were concealed from HMRC.

“HMRC is on the side of honest taxpayers and we will take tough action wherever we suspect tax fraud. Our message is clear – no one suspected of tax fraud is beyond our reach.

“We remind people to refrain from commentary or sharing of information that could prejudice proceedings in any way. This is now a matter for the courts and we will not be commenting further.”"

Is there a means to settle out of court to make the case go away?

It's nothing that few brown envelopes won't fix. Like the time he bought his way out of a bribery court case.

He'll have died of old age before this is settled.

Do tax liabilities pass on to children?

Nothing will happen. He'll fight extradition from Brazil through the courts for years and at his age it is very unlikely to be resolved in his lifetime.

You cant get probate until HMRC are satisfied that everything is in order and you dont owe them any money.

Wouldn’t be amazed if that’s where some of the information/tip offs have come from.

At the Monaco GP I was Googling the owners of a row of Superyachts moored opposite the swimming pool. One belonged to Steven Spielberg, one to Stroll snr the other to Bernie. His yacht is called Force Blue, originally bought by Flávio Briatore for £68m and refitted. It was seized by the Italian authorities as part of the fraud case and sold at a closed auction. Bernie managed to buy it for £6.8m - probably less than a 10th of its value.
Bernie wasn’t in Monaco but the yacht was being used by F. Briatore.
