Will Aston emerge as a winner this season?
Discussion
I think many of us in the UK would like to see Aston Martin start winning races and their road cars to be seen as market leaders but I think their best chance is in F1.
The engine is a good starting point, the car looks tidy and neat and Alonso will initially have the fire in his belly to achieve.
Let’s see what happens. Possibly Lando should be in the second car ?

I don't think there's anything to suggest they'll be winners this year. The best they can probably hope for is an improvement on last year's 7th (out of 10) in the constructor'sThe engine is a good starting point, the car looks tidy and neat and Alonso will initially have the fire in his belly to achieve.

F1 is a strange place sometimes so they might luck into a win. However, given that we are talking about a team that has accumulated 5 wins in it's various ownerships since it's inception over 30 years ago, and only two of those in the last 20 years, it's a long bet.
Lando in the second car?

1. He's far, far better than that. He should be in a Red Bull/Mercedes/Ferrari - not going to a customer team with a nutcase owner.
2. Stroll Jnr is going nowhere whilst Daddy owns the team.
TBH I'm not rooting for them that much whilst Stroll is overseeing the whole s

In the past few years, Checo has won a race in a Racing Point, Gasly has won in an Alpha Tauri, and Ocon has won in an Alpine. That being the case, Aston could win a race if the stars aligned.
I see no cause to believe that they're going to be running up with the big three though. They're starting from a pretty low base. The best they're going to be is fourth in the constructors. I personally believe they will be fifth behind Alpine.

I can imagine Stroll Snr is a nightmare to work for and probably overrules everyone he disagrees with in both the racing and road car departments.
Here he is with Paddy during his time at Williams:"Paddy, I think I have grasped what's going wrong"

"It's you! YOU!!!! you complete... ARGH!!!!!"

"Now, take all your hopeless ideas, and forget them - the only voice you listen to now is mine, Claire can p

"Good chat, glad to have broken you. I'm now this far into your personal space and you have accepted it, this is good"

They say that every picture tells a story and those photos above show an extreme bully full of his own importance who is in charge of a non delivering outfit.
Obviously my captions were entirely fictional
But it does seem obvious that Paddy was the recipient of being spoken to, it wasn't a conversation as such. Stroll is a large and powerful figure on many a level.
But I do think he's probably played a blinder with his shared interests with Toto and his attachment of an F1 team to AM. The F1 team will require zero future investment and will support its own existence regardless of actual success or performance. And as it does so, it will perpetually market the AM brand.
There is a triangle of interests at play here. Stroll, Toto, Mercedes. Mercedes and Toto own shares in AM... Mercedes already supply AM with power trains and tech. Whatever the end goal of this happy union might be, I doubt very much it relies on the F1 team achieving anything more than existing and waving a banner to 1 billion viewers.
Will they win? Nope. Do they care? Well the team members surely do but I think for the shareholders, it's a nice to have but by no means important or expected.
I suspect the season will be a head-butting championship between Alonso and Stroll Snr.
Stroll Snr, still thinks that Stroll Jnr is a latent world champion who just has not had the right breaks, so he will give him the best car and the best mentor and pow, he can make it happen. He failed with Asprey and he will fail with Lance - and then probably look away.
Aston Martin is certainly financially stronger than Force India was, but the glue that held that team together is dissolving, year-on-year.

I saw a bit of the launch and some of what a MattP1Tommy video said about it - the team presentation now is very stiff and corporate, Stroll Sr. was talking about the Aston Martin DBX at the F1 launch. It makes them hard like and to connect with, like peak grey era Ron Dennis McLaren were.
I don't think they'll get a win, at least on merit. There could always be a Gasly at Monza random result, but the same could happen with any of the teams behind the top 3. They could get podiums. Alonso will rag the car within an inch of its life though, way ahead of Stroll Jr.
