Gotta protect those hair plugs somehow rofl

Would have thought you'd have recalled Zhou at Silverstone as a more relevant, and recent example.

I'm still amazed he made it out. Even without the fire it would have been a pretty nasty accident piercing the barriers like that.

I dread to think how that would have played out before the Halo.

I wouldn't.

They have to do the escape test without removing the wheel. It’s tight but possible. I’d like to know if his shoe is still down there.

(That said, the straps around the seat suggest that things have been removed and replaced from the ‘car’. The FIA did a very thorough examination of it for their investigation).

He was probably strongly motivated.

Lewis and Zhou would both have had a nasty hit on the lid without the halo - although the helmet standards are also now ridiculously high compared to not many years ago.

Thankfully, there’s been a change in the roll bar standard this year, after the single-post design proved to be very much unsuitable at Silverstone last year.

As much as it demonstrates how far F1 safety has come since the 1970s (Cervert's crash was similar to RoGro's) I have no desire nor intrigued to see it. Even the picture makes me feel sick to the stomach that a driver could have been burnt to his death.

This years car is still using a single post blade design, it has a rounder top so wont dig in like it did last year and it's meeting a higher load test.
