You really couldn't make this up.

He has to "accomplish some work of public interest" for describing his car as fked.

Incredible.

Community service for all of you redcard

But anyway, in a press conference (not the pen straight after the race) I kind of get it. And other sports wouldn’t look kindly on it.

The in car stuff though is absolute nonsense.

Agree - and that rubbish about '... the word used is ordinary in speech as he learned it, English not being his native language.' Having said that, his father probably used it as every other word.

Would be funny if he told them to go fking stick it. Love him or hate him he’s a big draw for F1.

What would they do if he refused. He could go to any driving job in the world. You could argue F1 needs him more than he needs F1. Same with the likes of Lewis.

What's the problem?
Any functioning adult knows that they shouldn't use swear words widely accepted to be highly offensive to plenty of people in a press conference. It's not like a heat of the moment comment not intended to be heard by a wider audience.

He's been given a penalty for it and might behave a bit better in future.

Swearing is haram in Islamic societies. In other ethnicities not so much, and very widely varying in flavour as well. I have found the Dutch to be quite forthright in their use of colourful language, and not always aware of what is or isn’t taboo in another culture. Apparently, the ultimate insult in Holland is to call someone a cancer sufferer, which seems odd and tasteless to us in England. Perhaps the sexually based swear words used in English might not seem too strong to Max Verstappen.

I am prepared to cut him a little slack in this matter.

This is a grown up, multi billion dollar business.

As Lando said, if you don't want to hear swearing then watch something else.

Eh? I work for a grown up, multi-billion dollar business. If I go round effing and jeffing in front of colleagues or customers, I’d rightly get pulled up on it as well.

There’s a time and a place for swearing, and a press conference isn’t it.
Exactly, should be kept for behind closed doors.

It happens. It's not that he did it on purpose, that he planned to swear so that little kids would hear him or something... It just happens, I've sworn in front of children by accident, it wasn't on purpose. I'm pretty sure most people have. Sure he should be careful, but if something slips, that's not the worst thing in the world. I also think that people would much rather see a colourful character, rather than a PA robot in these cases. Makes it a bit more human, with their faults and all.

This is brilliant !

What an opportunity for Max to do something that is in the public interest that may bring attention to issues which may make MBS uncomfortable. This could be hilarious.

Even Guenther Steiner knows to keep his language clean at certain times.

I’m all in favour of community punishments for those who can’t be given a meaningful financial penalty. Top drivers are cash rich and time poor, so fine them time instead of money.

Have him turn up at a media training day for a load of junior drivers, who will love to hear the story that MV is here because he said fk in a press conference, so don’t say fk in press conferences.

I googled this, because I am aware of some fairly spicy insults in languages spoken in largely Muslim countries, and found this, which amused me;

Should have him doing police pursuit driving for a weekend, might catch some crims and can use his special talent of forcing people off the road for good for once tongue out
