Has this been mentioned?

Original plan was for 2031. Sadly, it has been mostly ruined since I excitedly started that thread; it looks like they are going with low-revving turbos. MBen-S is on Insta saying this

Audi appear to want to keep turbos, mmm.
Wouldn't it be nice to have a screaming N/A going at 15-16,000 rpm !
Aiui the majority/all teams gave the nod to turbo and retaining electrical assistance. But the electrical side is thankfully expected to go back to what it was before this season - basically just a useful extra ~150hp to help passing and save a thimble full of fuel.Wouldn't it be nice to have a screaming N/A going at 15-16,000 rpm !
We were never going to get screaming NA's!

Times change, and we change with them.

Wouldn't it be better to have a relatively simple V8 and then ALL teams must produce their own engine?
Have it so engine design can still be rewarded.
It would be if there weren't commercial considerations. But we've all chosen to follow a sport born by commercial interests, that maintains those interests to this day.Have it so engine design can still be rewarded.
The sport has stuck to it's roots, selling cars. It's the world of cars that changed.

I can't imagine this getting past the eco nonsense brigade but......
Often referred to as a popular bogey man figure - but although many people don't like motor sport (which for them (and many on PH) only means F1 ) I have never once heard an opinion about engine tech by non enthusiasts. Sure, some manufacturers push for hybrids because it's what they sell, but that is commercial expedience . not zealotry .As for V8s , nothing much to see here really . F1 V8s are invariably flat plane and while they can make a lot of noise it's rarely as sonorous as other configurations. The irony is that a V6 turbo can make an absolutely wonderful bellow, as anyone who stood trackside in the 1.5 Turbo era can attest . The Honda, Renault and TAG engines especially - all V6 twin turbo - coud wake the dead .

I would rather see 6, 10, or 12 cylinder configurations than V8s. The harmonics are generally better. As for V8s , nothing much to see here really . Err, no. Have a look at the longest-running F1 teams. Of the minority that were part of a company that sold road cars at all, the road cars funded the racing, rather than the racing advertising the road car business.HardtopManual said:
