Parking charge notice advice

One of the guys at work has just received a Parking Charge notice for not paying to park at Toddington services on the M1.
He admits he was there for around six hours, asleep in his motorhome. They have camera's recording movement in and out of the service area. There are notices up saying you must pay to stay for more than two hours. They are telling him he must pay £80 reduced to £50 for early payment. They are a private company working on behalf of Moto
Can he just ignore this or will he end up in court if he refuses to pay.

If it was at night you could argue the signs were not suficiantly illuminated to notify drivers there is a charge for long stays.
you could try the old "the vehicle was not parked but broken down" defence. Say dead battery for example, it either self charged (at night) or trickle charged from a solar pannel (if he was there at the daytime). The ANPR cameras they use will not be able to prove any different.

Do NOT EVER respond the the company concerned (this is important!)
They will send no end of threatening letters, bailiff/court threats.
Ignore but DO NOT RESPOND.
I managed to get about six on the go last year. Sadly they've gone away now, as the sums they were demanding were getting quite stratospheric. Tres amusing.
