Michelin Pilot Super Sports test day

I was one of the lucky winners to become a tyre tester for a day with the new Michelin Pilot Super Sport at the the Porsche Driving centre at Silverstone. I have just got home and it was an incredible day. We got to drive a 911 (various types) with a set of super sports on and then another 911 with a premium competitor's tyres on. The track was dry (ish). Before we went out they proved the pressures were the same on both types of tires and tread the same. I would consider myself to be an average track driver and was not expecting to notice any significant differences I was just hoping for a good day out.

I could not have been more wrong. The Pilot Super Sports were incredible and significantly better than the competition - turn in, understeer,etc were all massively better. There were 32 competition winners there with all sorts of differing experience and everyone I spoke to agreed they were in a different league to the competition. We did a braking test and the Michelin was better by 2-3 metres every time and a handling test which proved the Michelin better again. We then spent the afternoon on the skid pan and the track and had an absolute ball. The tyres gave me a lot more confidence and ultimately made me faster.

If you are looking for a replacement performance tyre you will not regret buying these tyres even if they cost a little more than the other leading brands.

Sounds like a fun day was had by all. How did you win the competition?

Competition was on this website a couple of months ago. You had to submit 100 odd words why you should become the tester. Never expected to win!

I was with michelin last week after winning tickets to Thruxton
James did say it was going to be a good day at Silverstone

Well I have recently put some Pro Sport 3's on the R32 and was impressed straight away. Much more confidence in corners and roundabouts.

To top that here in the South East we had some heavy rain and even more impressed.

Expensive yes but I would never put cheap tyres and worth the money.

Ps I'm jealous as sounds like a good day out.

Though it'll be another year before N rated Super Sports come out for Porsches - according to Michelin!

I think that is when they get Porsche approval for OE fitting. I think you could probably fit them now if you can get the right size - I was driving Porches all day with them on and they seemed to fit to me.
