It so nice buying cars from nice people, after various threads on here about pain in the ass sellers etc. I wish everyone could be the same but sadly not everyone is a Volvo owner. Being advised by the owner not to come & pick it up in the rain as we would'nt be able to see the condition of it cloud9 Despite us having bid on it on Ebay & won it at auction! hehe

As my wife & have finally decided to berid ourselves of the dreaded VAG reliability & crap build quality that is everything VW rage & return to the good old reliable Volvo that we used to own thumbup Sod the extra 20mpg from the diesel, I want something that always works regardless. Back to bangernomics it is for us.

So the Wifeys PD Golf Estate is for sale if any VW fanboys want a fixer upper.

So we've been on the lookout for another minty nice Volvo V70 estate around the 2000 mark, with the Nippon Denso electrics wink The ones with THE best ergonics of almost any vehicle to date, super comfy seats. Our last one did 260k before it was sold & everything still worked.

So yesterday after calling the owner & asking if we could pick it up late in the evening, we went to pick up the loveliest V70 estate you have ever seen, every receipt & MOT from new, 96k on the clock, in tip top condition & its not even been valeted. The nicest old boy owned it & he was sad to see it go, he seemed pleased when I said its off to a good home.

Drives like new, everything works, minty mint condition it's never had a towbar on it, a years MOT & the cost was £820 thumbup

Yesterday I drove my friend to go look at a mk5 Golf GT TDI he had seen for sale at a dealer.

We phoned to check that it was still available and then set off. When we turned up lone behold the car had been sold (it was very well priced). Apparently one dealer had been doing the deal on the other phone while to bloke we spoke to thought it was still available, then was unable to get our number back from 1471.

Normally by this point we would be pretty pissed off, but to say sorry for wasting our time the dealer offered us a substantial discount off any other car he had available in the forecourt. So today we're going back to look at a car that with the discount is around £500 cheaper than any other equivalent we can find on autotrader. Shocking, a car dealer has actually done the right thing for once!

Can't see the pic at work but I'm sure it's nice, I do like these and it'd be a contender if I needed a cheap comfortable runaround cloud9

Despite being a lesser dutch built Volvo I have been very impressed by my V40, bought in the middle of a very cold winter it came out of the otherside without a hiccup and has converted me to running old cheap cars if they are all this good.

Nice car. Pity about the mileage though - you will have to restrain your right foot until it is run in, only about another 90,000 miles to go!

Seriously though, these appear nice cars and was considering changing my 740 for one but in the end as she has loads of life yet (not quite reached 200k yet) I restrained my self as I knew it would be an addition and not a replacement.

It certainly does & it works lovely biggrin along with cruise, half leather, trip computer etc etc. Its a V70 Classic which was the run out model, same as our old one, they come with all the nice trimmings.

Just been on an 80 mile trip & back, down the A303, 32.6mpg at motorway speeds, (which in diesel money would be nearly 35mpg) so really only 15mpg difference between this & the Golf PD. Thats roughly £670 quid more per 10k on fuel but I guarantee I wont be fixing this every weekend unlike the Golf, & to think of the savings I'll be making to the swearbox hehe

Maybe the seller had some specific reason but I honestly don't understand why people sell such cars for so little money - what's he going to replace it with?

I'm in a similar position with a Merc estate which is getting on a bit now, but is low mileage. If I sold it, I would never in a million years get anything like what the car is worth to me.

So now that you're a Volvo owner you should be more honest about the 115 PD TDI ESTATE - the way it reads at the moment the car seems to be decent not crap.

Its a decent car just needs some jobs doing, I just hate fixing VW's with lots of stupid size bolts. When your used to Toyota's that need 3 spanners for the same job that a VW needs 30 different tools for. I still might end up fixing it & re-mot'ing it but I've got loads of other things to be doing at the moment. Hence its priced with the jobs in mind.
