Toyota Yaris Mk1 1.0 real world motorway mpg?

My sister has one of these, town driving with some dual carriage way, during rush hour and no car sympathy, it is averaging 47ish mpg, according to the trip computer, when I have been in car with her, and she is doing a steady 70mph, it is reading 60-65mpg sometimes more, sometimes a little less. I have no idea as to how accurate the trip computer is, however it does give an average mpg and then a current mpg reading too.
As above. My 50 mile round trip commute, mixture of everything regularly returns 55mpg (according to trip computer and driving with efficiency in mind).
Ignoring it and giving it a blat (or as much of one as you can with that engine..you need to wring it's neck anyway regularly especially on motorways) returns mid 40's.
I've never done the paper sums to see how accurate it is, but based on the size of tank versus miles done to a tank it's in the right ballpark.
I have many problems with the car but the price of running it isn't one of them. Apart from the mpg the tax, insurance and maintenance costs are as close to £0 as I reckon I'll ever see on a car. Very reliable and cheap.

Besides the fact that it was hopelessly slow around town, my partners old Yaris used to be fairly good on the Motorway.
It would happily cruise along at 70-80mph all day. Obviously, wasn't the best at overtaking but once over 4000rpm, it didn't shift all that bad.
She used to do a lot of mileage in it ranging from A roads and motorway to town driving on a daily basis. I think she used to average around 35-40mpg most of the time.
If you drive it like a saint I'm sure you will get much higher, but tbh, it's slow enough as it is when your flooring it so you'll never make progress if you try to be economical. We used to get around 400 miles out of a full tank. Not sure the size of the tank but if you know it, you can probably do the maths.
Wasn't a bad car though. I would have one if it was the sort of thing I was after, although I would definatly go for atleast the 1.3 or more likely, the 1.5 sport. They will all be very economical.

Well that is a good car to be honest demanded to be driven. I had one of those and did it for 90 000 miles around London and managed to lose two front wheel trims over a railway "jump" one time and also managed understeer-oversteer-oversteer-understeer all on one 180 corner on the M25 -> A21 in the rain. That sort of behaviour normally trips the drivers pacemakers. I set fire to my seat with a fag butt as well, those were the days. I'm older now of course and think that is not the done thing.Anyone have any experience of the above, if so what sort of figures were you seeing, preferably at a legal-ish 60-70mph?

t in comparison. If you want a fun city car buy an Aygo/C1/107 even though they are a lot slower and have worse mpg. Cracking bottom feeder cars for pure low budget fun.So in summary, stop worrying about mpg and just thrash it.

I appreciate they're Different cars, but while my 2.0TDi Octavia was at dealers for some warranty work Skoda gave me a 1.2 TDi Fabia, and on the motorway I got better MPG numbers from the 2.0 engine than the 1.2. (and on the motorway I tend to drive like an old fart)
In my experience small cars are great around town but possibly a false economy if you spend lots of time on the motorway.
