Some bloke for the last few months has been leaving his 10 year old Passat parked on a road round the corner from me. I've noticed that very regularly (i.e. at least once or twice a week) he is issued with a parking ticket for leaving the vehicle parked illegally.

I was thinking today, its a bit odd that you would allow your car to get a parking ticket on a weekly basis so I've dug a bit further and put the registration through askmid and it turns out its also un-insured mad. I'm guessing the parking offences must be going unpaid.

Is there anything I can do about this? The car is in daily use and has tax.

You've got the hump about a car parked on a road near yours?

Not being on ASKMID does not mean that it is uninsured - it means its not on ASKMID.

You've also broken the law by looking it up on ASKMID - do 2 wrongs make a right?

In answer to your question if you are genuinely suspicious report your suspicions to the police. Don't forget to tell them why you are suspicious wink

Well I don't like uninsured drivers! Have to pay enough to use the roads and park legally etc, people like this piss me off.

Think it's because before you search you have to say 'yes this is my car'.

Can't you just call crimestoppers and say you think a neighbour is driving while uninsured?

If plod want to investigate, they can.

This is quoted from the website search:

I understand it is an offence to wrongfully obtain information of this nature without any of the above reasonable causes. If I fail to provide true reasons for acquiring this information I may be committing an offence of unlawfully obtaining data contrary to section 55 of the Data protection Act 1998. The car may be on a trade policy so will not show on ASKMID, also depends on what he does for a living as to whether he is breaking the law in checking on it.
IMHO why does it matter to you if it is around the corner?
When he starts to block your drive then complain!

I get half a dozen tickets a week, though I've never paid one.

I never park illegally - if the council can't mark out their parking bays and create properly enforcable traffic regulation orders, that's not my problem.

So, every week I get a few tickets, every week I appeal, win and the status quo is maintained...

(Oh and I am insured btw)

I only looked up the insurance because I can't help but notice every time I pass said car there is nearly always a new penalty notice stuck to the windscreen because he thinks he can park where he likes! Could be worse I suppose hehe.... but seems a bit suspicious.

phone the policy and tell them there is an uninsured, untaxed car being used regularly, they see it has a shed load of unpaid tickets, it gets crushed.

as the romans would say "jobus donus"

If it was untaxed surely they would have removed it instead of just putting a ticket on it???

Edit - I parked for free for 3yrs at a train station car park (privately owned), never bought a parking ticket & got ticketed a few times a week ... ignored them all as well as the reminders wink

The declaration you make on ASKMID is as below.

How else could it get taxed without insurance?

The tax doesn't prove its currently insured, just means it was insured at the point the tax was purchased.
