Am loving retro 70's and 80's japanese sports cars and saloons lately. Found an epic gallery on this Facebook page with a load of ultra-cool pics, if you go to the photos

they probaly look better now than they did when they were new. I know some damily jap cars were very box-like but certain one's have really have aged well, even if they do seem to resemble certain smart italian/american/british cars

Most don't, same as all the Euro commuter boxes and shopping carts.

The sporty ones however, umm umm biggrin

They are all a bit mass produced though, they just have that look and feel to them. I can't quite place it exactly. But take my s13 for example, a lovely good performing car. But the interior did feel like it had been designed in a factory for the purpose of being a mass produced exercise, rather than created for the enjoyment of sitting in it.

Even my old TR7, it uses equally as cheap plastics, but somehow the interior just feels different. More quirky maybe. More of a statement instead of just a function.

I remember we used to visit the local Toyota dealer for petrol back in the 70s.

Their cars might have been really reliable, but they were really tacky and felt badly built, even next to BL, Renault and Alfas/Fiats of the era.

They got their act together quite quickly and I always liked the original RX7 as a design, but nostalgia for Datsun Sunnys and Cherrys and Toyota Crowns isn't likely to arrive here any time soon smile

It is a constant in hack journalism. A German car, no matter how much black plastic they use, has a "quality interior" and "is a nice place to be". Even the VW Fox.

It makes churning out crap about a car you haven't even driven so much easier.

Blimey, that must have taken some doing. Then again look where the Chinese and Korean cars are now - remind you of anything? Watch this space...
