Not sure that's a sure fire way of deciding what is an engines placement. If it is, then I'm sure there are loads of front mid mounted fwd cars as well as a few front mounted fwd cars.Just

Also what about longitudinally mounted engines that drive the front wheels, therefore having the crank both in front and behind the front axle line?
