I've always wanted to own a ...but haven't got round to yet!
Discussion
I'm quite resigned to never owning a Ferrari, Maserati or Aston Martin but what other makes that you could reasonably aspire to have you always fancied owning but not got round to it yet and why do you want to own one? I've owned in this order a Vauxhall, Peugeot, Mazda, BMW, VW (x3), Fiat and Subaru. The only must have make for me out of those would be the BMW, although I did like most of the specific models that I owned (for instance the Peugeot was a 205 GTi and the VWs were a Corrado VR6 and a Golf GTi).
However, saying I drive a Peugeot doesn't really make much of an interesting statement. These are the makes that I would like to own and why. What are yours?
1. Alfa Romeo (it could just be a knackered 33 but saying that I drive an Alfa Romeo still sounds interesting and exotic, although I might draw the line at an Arna. Remember those?)
2. Porsche - it was always my ambition to own a Porsche by the time I was 30 but I failed. (I was holding out for a 911 but a 924 with a VW engine is still a Porsche)!
3. Jaguar - no-one does an interior like Jaguar and they make me feel patriotic
4. Mercedes-Benz - to say that you drive a Mercedes-Benz still says that you've arrived, BMWs and Audis are still trying a bit too hard!
5. Saab - Scandinavian cool! Volvo probably does Scandanavian cool better now since the designers threw away the rulers but Volvo still comes with some fuddy duddy connotations and the Saab doesn't really make a statement about the driver (in a good way)! What is a typical Saab driver? As far as I know, they have only made 2 different cars for about the last 30 years and I don't have a burning desire to own any of them apart from a classic 900 Turbo perhaps but I would still like to own one one day. A Saab is not the obvious choice and for that reason, a little bit idiosyncratic and interesting.
6. Skoda - it says that I want a high quality car but aren't hung up about the badge which makes it quite cool in my book.

Um, where to begin? I'll limit it to my top 5.
1. Bentley Turbo R, looked at one last weekend. Huge car, engineered like a truck. Classy and old money image. Honking great V8 with bin lid sized turbo. f
ker won't fit on my driveway though! I think the Rolls or Bentley itch will need to be scratched at some point.
2. AC Cobra replica, something faithful to the original, period sideoiler etc and proper sized wheels. I'd love to build one.
3. Caterham or Westfield, perhaps the rawest driving experience for the average Joe? Had a few passenger rides but never driven one.
4. Range Rover L322, Driven a few and they have never failed to impress. I'd love one as a daily driver
5. Some sort of German 'Bahn stormer. M powered or AMG preferably. I know the W210 is a rusty old dog now but drove one this afternoon and they are such a sledgehammer in a straight line.
I think of the above are obtainable within the price of a smallish new hatchback.
