I haven't driven this way for a couple of months and noticed the new gantries and cameras yesterday. They were showing 60 and everyone seemed to be sticking rigidly to 60mph, and even though it was busy there was nobody in the fast lane which seemed odd...

I just wondered if anyone had been caught by them as, even with the speed set at 60, it seemed odd that nobody would be chancing their arm and doing 70?

Aah the brainwashed masses! They are the same paranoid puppies who creep past Highways Agency 4x4's at exactly 69mph. rolleyes

I use the route a lot and usually don't pay much attention to them. Yes the traffic flows marginally better for them, but I've heard they're not that stringent re- the scameras going off... wink

yes, i was surprised by the mass compliance to the exact 60mph limit - I cruised past a few people in the fast lane at about 65 before I had a crisis of confidence, and decided I had better slow down in case they all knew something I didn't!

AFAIK they are only active when the signs are showing less than NSL. When the signs are off, the cameras are off. Unless they've changed, which wouldn't surprise me.

You're usually allowed 10% anyway for general speedometer inaccuracies. I've 'heard' of people going through there at higher than that though and had no problems...

ACPO guidelines state 10%+2. Not compulsory though.

I pass that way twice a day on my commute...this is the first I've heard of it.

I do between 65-80 (traffic permitting) and have had no issues. Depends on when the system became active I suppose...

they are just north as you join the M6 from the M5, at the bit where it is 4 lanes now - what really surprised me was that nobody was going faster than 60 and the fast lane was quite literally empty...

That is what made me think that perhaps they had begun fine-ing people for exceeding the variable speed (which is what I was doing, although still under 70, so I will have to wait and see if I get a ticket....)
