Video: BMW M5 Given The Beans

Latest M5 promo video makes us wish we were BMW development engineers...

A bit of tyre-smoking Friday fun for you: "The number one goal of the new M5 is to create an even more exciting driving experience" says Albert Biermann, the VP of engineering at BMW M in this latest promo video of the new M5.

Judging by the way Munich's finest development engineers are chucking it around the company's Miramas test facility in the south of France, the new F10 Bee-Em M looks like it ought to be quite a hoot.

We just wish BMW would stop giving work to the Hollywood action film trailer voiceover man. He really is a bit irritating...

When I started watching the video I began to think 'sigh, just looks like another boring BMW. I'm really going off them' and then I realised Wow! It looks like another boring BMW again and yet it's the most powerful M5 they've ever made. YES they have made a proper M5 again. A car that looks so dull you don't give it a 2nd glance but which from behind the wheel you question if you've just stepped into the latest Lamborghini. This was the trick I loved so much about the E34. It felt to drive NOTHING like it looked from the outside.

All looks and sounds very promising.

3 questions spring to mind: Weight, Cost and Estate version?

Im guessing... 2000kg Kerb, £75k and hopefully.

Seen a few of the new 5-series on the road now, and I must say I'm not a huge fan of the styling ...
But I think I could fall in love with this M5 quite easily cloud9

I love the bit about the burnout, I wonder what mode you have to put the gearbox in for that, however I suspect it's pretty easy with all that torque. hehe

looks like it rev's to at least 6,650rpm before changing up (automatically) - exciting stuff - is it a diesel, then ? i'll stick to the V10 tnks.

There's something deeply reassuring in the new M5 having been built by a grey-haired, bespectacled chap called Siegfried.

They've got to do a touring, or the PH army will be up in arms.

But if it does weigh in at 2000kg, thats positively scary. As is the weight of most cars these days.

it is a 7 speed box, they're just not in 7th gear... it's basically the same box as in the M3 with DCT which is 7 speed.

i swear i read that BMW said the weight is going be hardly any more than the E60, if at all. in which case it'll weigh 1850-1900kgs, give or take.

either way, you just know it'll out-perform it's rivals. M5s always do.
