A friend of mine is looking to buy the above and I'm wondering what the feedback is on the 147.

The price is not a concern since she would be buying it in Poland for use in Austria and 2nd hand car prices are considerably more over here however I'm more concerned about Alfa reliability and what tends to go wrong in these cars of this age. 9 years old with that kind of mileage and I'm sure there will be wear and tear issues.

What's the verdict?

Of course there will be wear and tear on a 100k car but the 147 are sturdy little cars, what engine is it?

Generally with 147's you need to look out for regular cambelt changes, suspension bushes and wishbones, regular servicing and oil levels. Same as most cars really.

Most well maintained Alfa's would have had the bulk of this done smile

I'm not mechanically minded on Alfa's or most cars come to think of it, but I wouldn't of thought 10,000 miles per annum would put a lot of strain on any engine. I would probably be concerned about it if it did only short trips as the oil/engine hasn't warmed up.

I hope I have been of some help.

Edit: 10k per year wouldn't be a strain if it has had regular servicing etc etc....

Sounds promising. The car is a 1.9 petrol, but I don't know much else. This is the information I had from my friend.

I pretty much mentioned what you guys have already said such as ensuring it has a good paper-trail, good tires and so-forth.

I did however read 147's have gearbox problems in their later lives....can anyone put any light on this?

You'd better check that before going much further. The diesels are 1.9.
The petrols are 1.6, 2.0 and 3.2.
