I recently changed insurance company and the new company is rightfully requesting proof of my claimed years of NCB. The problem is, the renewal letter and following cancellation letter from the previous company don't state NCB earned.

I have tried calling the previous company a few times and each time get dumped in some sort of calling queue regardless of options chosen or who I have spoken to (only claims option gets me through to a human). To date the longest I have lasted in the queue before hanging up was 23 minutes as there is only so much Kylie Minogue instrumental I can handle. The cost of the 0871 number (its the principle not the actual money) is also wearing my patience thin.

I have explained this to the new company and they have confirmed that they too cannot get through to the old company to confirm NCB. They have been quite understanding and said they will give it another week of them trying to make contact before taking any further action (cancellation or premium rise).

I have already come to terms with the possible premium rise, but I was just wondering if there is any other record of NCB?. Is it really just down to your previous insurer to confirm this?. If they drop the ball as it were, is your counter really reset back to 0 through no fault of your own?.

I told my new insurer who the broker was (Carole Snatch) and the ref. number and they confirmed my NCB via email.

Renewal notice has all my details, details of the bike etc, but nowhere on it does it state NCB. A reminder/cancellation notice came through the following week and that didn't have NCB on it either. I called new company gave them all the details, policy number of old company etc and they are having the same problem I am which is unable to contact the old company.

Not sure if giving the name of the previous insurer would break any name and shame rules. I was really after any other means of proving NCB earned, besides relying on your previous insurer.

I had a similar isssue, I had lost my reminder and the new insurance co were getting a bit shirty about it. Then I pointed out to them that my previous insurer was the RAC, with the insurance being backed off to Aviva. My new insurance company was ... youve guessed it , Aviva. Once I pointed this out it took them about 5 seconds to tell me the computer had my NCB and no further action was required.

I have a feeling this could all be sorted in 5 seconds also, if either of us could just get ahold of someone who can handle it.

I did get to speak to someone but that was only by calling the claims hotline out of desperation. The rep said he couldn't do anything and re-connected me to the Kylie appreciation extension. rolleyes
