Wheel dustcaps,yes or no?

Following a post in another thread which seems to have gathered a few negative comments,what do people think about dustcaps and their fitting?.I personally think. a,wheels look unfinished without the cap on. b,the obvious safety issue of not having them fitted. c,it just shows a complete lack of care.
So if you do not use them why?

I always use them. If they get damaged, or if I drop them down the drain , I spend a quid or two and buy some more.

I thought I was sad about tyres and such but this is just a whole new level.

there was a piece in one of the bike mags where they ran a bike on track ,and ran it with and without valvecaps. they found that because of the centrifugal effect , the tyres had dropped dangerously in pressure after only a few laps.....

Thanks. I think that thread should be taken with a rather large pinch of salt though. At least I hope it should.

Just had new wheels and tyres fitted to Mrs X's car. Came with lovely chrome valves and caps. Went out the other morning and some light fingered little bd had knicked the caps!

Sent her down to the local tyre place to have a flirt with the lads and get some new ones .....free!

Nope first time i check tyre pressures i throw em away, in ni-on a million miles of driving minicabs, delivery vehicals and recovery trucks i have never ever had any problem due to this other than washing mud out the odd valve in the winter, i have had the odd valve stick (like once or twice in 24 years) and that was cured with a quick squirt of WD.
Must add i have never killed any nuns or plowed through bus stops full of children due to my highly dangerouse choice of choosing to run without the safty of dust caps, i did flirt with nice ford ones but after the 3rd set i decided to stop supplying the local kids with flash dust caps for thier fooking bikes
I will say i check my pressures before any long run (that is sometimes daily when i was driving for a living) now i do it once a week, which due to running a fleet of cars for the family is still daily but on differant cars every time.
I fully expect to see a wax effergy of myself next to binlardin and adolf in madame twosords next week
cue the morons who berate me for my obv lack of knolledge and my desire to kill small kittens, watch out kitty i have an unprotected valve and i'm not affraid to use it

how exactly does that work then ? the cap doessn't touch the valve in any way so untill i see a link to that artical i'm calling bullst on that and when i see the link i'm still calling bullst on it

Poundland have some that light up while you drive. I think they're for bikes (only two in a pack) really but they'll probably work on a car.

Soon everyone will have tyre DRLs.

I'm sure you'll find a few bikes in the area with little chrome ones with a Ford logo soon. I stick to boring black ones because I hate the little gits that nick them.

My Mazda one's got nicked the other night, thing is I only had three on as I ut one in my pocket by mistake when checking the tyre pressures. I am now hunting a Mazda with three chrome caps on it.

I'm sure the scrote must have been mightly disappointed to see one missing.
