Does anyone know if there are any regulations regarding speed humps or can they just be as big as the person putting it in wants?

They have recently installed them so I cant get home without driving over at least 10 sets, but didnt bother fixing the pot holes in the road they installed them on! Some of them I would estimate are as tall as 20cm, some are more like 5cm!

Also, one of the roads is a pretty major hill. Last winter people had a really hard time getting up it, especially the middle mark and at the very top because you have to stop or youll overshoot the junction. Theyre the whole way up the hill, I cant wait untill winter!

Its the same as some other areas round here on hill they have put in mini round abouts on the worst parts of the hill. During the winter anyone whos garden is close to one gets completely destroyed.

I just wish who ever is in charge of this sort of thing would maybe have a think about it first.

What happened to spending cuts? They shouldn't be still doing this st. Didn't Eric Pickles say it was time to end the war on the motorist that Labour were waging?

Most roads in this country have a terrible amount of pot-holes. Nobody with any sense would be driving quickly on the roads with so many holes around anyway...so speed humps won't slow them down any further. Those who do drive fast over the holes will still drive fast over the humps too.

Sorry I don't know about any regulations, but I think I remember hearing there was a maximum height.

Yeah and the speed limit is 30 but you cant go over them any faster than say 10mph max without it sounding rough.

Maybe if they wanted the limit below 30 they should have tried sign posting it first.

They also changed the kerb stones at the end of the streets where you would cross over, from ones that went down so you could walk across or push a wheel chair or pram to new ones pretty much exactly the same! Id say maybe 40+ sets of 2 that were fine, and are now exactly the same, but with two of those extra grip slabs behind them. I asked a guy I know that lives near by thats in a wheel chair was it any better, he said "no theyre harder to get over now because of the wee bumps meant for grip."

Would rather they put speed limits down and fixed city roads than putting bumps in. My tracking is slightly out after managing to hit 3 huge ones (made the car bang and pedestrians jump...) over the past week or so.

I want to find out what the height regs are then go hassle the council or whoever put them in.

I totally agree, they should have spent the money fixing the roads. And educating children to not walk infront of a cars, cant hurt.

Google "road hump regulations". I think the maximum height is 100mm.

Also, it's tactile paving (to help those with visual impairment) and has nothing to do with grip.

Google 'speed hump regulations' - it's all there. Several years ago some were installed near my house and I got the height and angle reduced after I complained to the county council.

There arent any visually impared people living in the area that Ive ever seen (although how would I tell other than a stick or a dog?), and I know of at least 3 people in wheel chairs that now have a harder time than before.

Just seems like it might be a waste of money to me, unless of course there are some visually impared people that I havent seen about the area. Then fair play.

I dont even think if the speed humps are over sized anyone will fix them. Ill have a go anyway.
