I'm wondering if this is a national phenomenon or just something peculiar to Carlisle...

Around a week ago ASDA and Morrisons both reduced their fuel prices - to the point where diesel is only 1-2p/L more than 95RON (134.7/135.7 at ASDA and 133.9/135.9 at Morrisons for comparison's sake). A glance at forecourt signs today showed BP at 136.9/142.9 and Esso at 135.9/140.9. Even Shell, which usually price-matches Morrisons, has stuck at 135.9/139.9... I know where I'll be filling up!

Shell/Esso/BP are always slightly more expensive. Some people (even on here) are willing to pay more because they think they are getting better petrol.

BP are always 2-3p/l more than everyone else. Always have been.

ASDA and Morrisons at Carlisle are always the cheapest. Shell at Hardwicke Circus is usually pretty close to the supermarket price, unlike Shell Todhills.

I'm use to getting my pants pulled down by both my car and petrol forecourts frown

I'm paying 145.9 for V-Power currently. Fuel is the cheapest its ever going to be, so we should enjoy it while it lasts. I wouldn't be surprised to see £2ppl by the close of this year.

Strangely the shell in my area is the same as the supermarket's BP is always 2-3p dearer anyway.

£1.38 a litre.

I'd be interested what their excuse is for the current 7-8p difference on diesel...

According to my local garage (BP franchise), BP claim they are dearer as they bought a load of fuel while wholesale prices were higher per barrel, therefore they pass the cost to the consumer. Might be something to do with their massive legal bills following the pipe disaster

With radio ones big weekend being last weekend the ASDA and morrisons were looking for alot of food trade so reduced prices to tempt the revellers in. The petrol stations were looking for just petrol sales and couldnt slash the prices quite as much.

My £/mile would disagree... And whilst I've never RR'd my car, back to back performance tests would also disagree with you...

I'm not ensignia, but I suspect - happy to be corrected - his feelings can be summed up by the graph below.
